CBS news, April 28, 2006 | by Jarrett Murphy. (excerpts) Prosecutors began investigating Limbaugh in 2003 after the National Enquirer reported his housekeeper’s allegations that he had abused OxyContin and other painkillers. He soon took a five-week leave from his radio show to enter a rehabilitation program and acknowledged he had become addicted to pain medication. He blamed it on severe back pain.
Before his own problems became public, Limbaugh had decried drug use and abuse and mocked President Clinton for saying he had not inhaled when he tried marijuana. He often made the case that drug crimes deserve punishment.
As a primary condition of the dismissal, Limbaugh must continue to seek treatment from the doctor he has seen for the past 2½ years, Black said. Among other provisions, he also has agreed to pay the state $30,000 to defray its investigative costs, (how convenient)
“Drug use, some might say, is destroying this country. And we have laws against selling drugs, pushing drugs, using drugs, importing drugs. … And so if people are violating the law by doing drugs, they ought to be accused and they ought to be convicted and they ought to be sent up,” Limbaugh said on his short-lived television show on Oct. 5, 1995
You tell me?

Nobody has forgotten nor turned a blind eye. We’ve just moved on. May I suggest you do the same?
It’s quite funny since most Limbaugh lovers are all about punishment over rehabilitation as evidenced by our huge prison population for mostly drug crimes. I am not sure why they are not all screaming about him not being in prison.
I will go a step further, I don’t think the word “was” is necessary. I am sure he is still abusing drugs.
Stupid Question
More importantly, Have we forgotten democrats preferred false charges against Senator Stevens to steal the Alaskan Senate Seat? When the voters overwhelmingly wanted a republican to represent them? But didn’t want a crook? (Republicans don’t like crooks and keep re-electing them like democrats do).
If that had been done by republicans you know we would never hear the end of it. Now nothing of this in the press. Misuse of political position to disenfranchise voters, it’s ok when democrats do it to republicans right?
Obama did cocaine and he is the highest elected official ever ; ) know what I mean.
People also forget that Newt Gingrich, who lead the “revolution” in Congress in 1994 by appealing to Americans’ sense of morality, divorced his wife while she was laying in a hospital bed, suffering from cancer. He quickly married his secretary.
cybe, Stevens was guilty. Just like Duke Cunningham, Tom Delay, Scooter Libby, and Jack Abramoff.
No we haven’t forgot but at least that is more curable then some illnesses. He is allowed to redeem himself until proven otherwise. I have never heard of Rush speak and I refuse to pay for radio broadcast. He has never been broadcast over my local airways. We only get Mancow and NPR for talk radio.
Obama blamed his drug use on his collage yrs. He has never sought help so my guess is he is Still an ADDICT
Limbaugh is a sad, angry man. I am a conservative, and I can assure you that he most definitely does not represent me or my beliefs. with that said, i could care less about his or anyone else’s personal problems with narcotics. the war on drugs is a disgusting failure. why do we feel we need to tell grown adults what they can or cannot put in their bodies? all it does is fill the prisons up with perpetrators of victimless crimes.
I don’t really care if he had had a drug problem, it can happen to anyone. It is his ideas and general douchebagness that make me dislike him, although you are right that it certainly makes all his points on Clinton and drug use in general invalid.
The same people tune in to listen to Bill O’Reilly lecture them on morality when he was the one caught sexually harassing a coworker many times.
As long as these right wing media moguls scream “God bless the USA!” and “Liberals are bad!”, mindless masses of conservatives will listen to them, shaking their heads in agreement the whole time.
No one has forgotten any more than any other ENTERTAINER that has been addicted to drugs.
That is what he is right?
There is a double-standard on both sides of the aisle and the real truth is hidden under the rubble: all of these people are corrupt (in it for the money) and none of them seem to have any morals. You got Clinton having an affair in the White House and there was Newt Gingrich all over his @$$ while having an affair himself. It is funny how so many of those who were against gay marriage turned out to be gay. So many of those that wore their religion on their sleeves were divorced several times and had affairs
Most people don’t care. I thought Liberals were all about giving people second chances.
Also, there’s quite a bit of time between Oct. 5, 1995 and April 28, 2006. I can’t tell if you’re calling him a hypocrite or not, but if you are, it’s entirely possible that he developed the addiction sometime in the 10 year timespan. If you’re going on about why people don’t want him locked up, see my first sentence.
Rush is wildly successful and makes approx. $38 million per year.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it dude.
Not your typical “drug user”, eh?
And ?
Obama is a former drug user
That doesn’t seem to bother you.
Many people get addicted to prescription drugs. He was addicted, got help and hopefully is free from his addiction. This is really old news. Do you feel better bringing up this old news about Rush?
