Welfare/War on drugs solution?

Do you think this would be at all effective?

Take some of the billions of dollars that are being dumped into the war on drugs, and start drug testing welfare recipients. If they fail, they get no money and in order to receive money they would have to go through rehab, and pass the test. Kills two birds with one stone. Cuts down on drug usage, and think of all the junkies on welfare that would be kicked off.

I agree with you one hundred thousand percent!!!

Why is it that grest common sense ideas like this never get enacted???

How does it cut down on drugs. Most drug abusers are not on welfare, they start using drugs and then go on welfare once they are badly addicted.
Wouldn’t it be better to test all workers and fire them if they use drugs. That would eliminate the problem before it started.

Then the junkies would rob you and me to support their habits and their children will have no food to eat. No win situation.

I agree with the drug testing, however if assistance is taken away the crime rate may also increase. Addiction is a disease and people cannot be rehabilitated unless they are willing – also, i’m sure some have children – it would be domino effect..

Drug addicts steal. Welfare would not even pay for a couple days

A far more practical solution would be to legalize pot, and tax the hell out of it ala alcohol and tobacco.

Use the money to eradicate harder drugs and treat addicts.

This would also bail out alot of American farmers….a dying species.

    How ’bout this.
    Legalize drugs.
Tax the heck out of them. Eliminate the national debt. Provide tons of rehabilitation and social welfare programs while reducing taxes and crime.

Billions of dollars are being spent on the war against drugs?
    How so? Anti-drug commercials? lol

    I think that’s a good i idea.
    GOD BLESS

*sigh* This would increase the crime rate exponentially.

Welfare should be eliminated, period. There are jobs for EVERYONE who wants a job. Most just choose NOT to take them. The government should ASSIGN them jobs, til they find something they want to do better. Money should not be just given, for NO work done. We have an entire culture that has lived for generations on Welfare. It has to be stopped.

Drugs are a separate problem. The ONLY way to eliminate the problem would be:

Legalize it, within a certain area. OUTSIDE of that area, use of anything but Pot, should be an instant bullet to the head. Period. Drug use will either A. Be contained and managable. They will use til they die in their little slum. Eventually it would die out entirely. B. Those using or selling outside the zones, forfeit everything they own, which is placed into the public assistance programs. Mainly Medcaid/Medicare, since the government would be assigning temp jobs. Sell articles and houses cars, etc. and put the money into a medical fund.

Harsh? Yes. but liberal ideas do NOT work with welfare and drugs. They never HAVE. They only support the problem, by enabling it. Give give give, with no accountability. It has gotten us nowhere. Time to radically alter the equation.
