Do you feel that alcoholism is because of his or her parents having drinking problems?

I would like to know how many people think that alcoholism is environmental. On a scale 0-10, ten being the highest how much do you feel alcoholism is based on the influence of drinking parents?

5 on average but 9 for your friend, its really a reverse bell curve with a lot of people on the no drinking side and a lot on alcoholism side with few in the center if the parents are extreme alcoholics.
it either causes a positive or negative influence because the kids follow by example or learn from their parents mistakes. at least with most of the people i know with parents who are alcoholics.

There is a genetic and social component to alcoholism but most alcoholics (around 80% or so) have no family history of alcoholism.
So I’ll go with a 4 for that.

I’d say it is in a sense… Both of my parents were alcoholics my entire childhood, and I turned out to despise drinking… But I think I picked up the addictive personality. I’m not addicted to alcohol, but I am addicted to cigarettes and cannabis…

I think the addiction aspect is it .. and most people use alcohol over anything else because it’s easiest to obtain.
