Actually more like tens of millions. In the best possible scenario, with full preparedness, millions would die but the nation would survive.
It’s a great thing that this country focuses so heavily on national defense, and yet we are about as unsafe as when we started. In spite of all this, no terrorist attacks have occurred since 9/11 in the U.S. Why that is boggles the mind, and don’t tell me that it’s because the terrorists are scared. If someone wanted to blow up a building in the U.S., they wouldn’t have a hard time doing it.
But more on your point. It’s true, we are entirely unable to prevent a nuclear strike on our country, and yet we like to act like we’re fully capable of doing so, without quite lying to the public. The phrase you’ve quoted is evidence of that. “Prepared to respond” means absolutely nothing, yet it sounds like something’s getting done.
I heard on CoastToCoast am that something might happen in Phoenix, Portland or Houston if immunity isn’t granted to the telecoms.
Some things you just can’t prepare for. It’s like if you were sitting at a table and a stranger walked up and slapped you upside the head. Bet you weren’t prepared for that.
I wonder if they have some kind of warning, that says we will be attacked with WMD’s soon. I don’t want us to be attacked, but the govt has intelligence that will scare the crap out of you. The reason they don’t release it is because it will cause mass panic.
