I do not understand why marijuana us illegal, and has so many negative things against it. I am not a stoner, and have probably smoked less than 10 times in my life (I’m 17). It just kinda makes me feel like I am floating, intense comfort, and I’m giggly.
Medical marijuana is much more effective for certain diseases/conditions than the current, rarely used treatment, dronabinol. Dronabinol is just synthetic THC, and it lacks many other beneficial cannabinoids. It helps with nausea/appetite problems in cancer and AIDS patients, helps glaucoma, is a muscle relaxant, and a natural expectorant.
The only time that marijuana has truly helped me was during the summer of 2008, I had a nasty case of bronchitis. I had to go to the hospital and I was given IV morphine and other opioids to take home (hydrocodone) to help relieve my cough. The opioids worked and I stopped taking them, but my cough just came back, and I decided to try marijuana. It helped me cough up the stuff that was in my lungs, and it worked. When my doctor asked me how my cough was cured I was just like, “I smoked weed,” and she just kinda shook her head.
I think that marijuana should be allowed to be used for recreational uses, just as alcohol and tobacco are used. It is not addictive, as it causes almost no physical withdrawal symptoms, but psychologically, it may be habit forming. The reason I think that most governments refuse to legalize marijuana is because of potency issues, and it is harder to tax because of these potency issues. For recreational purchase, people should be 18+ to buy it.
I think the reason it is the most used illegal drug is because it gains all this negativity from media, and anti-drug campaigns, which instead of curbing use, causes teens to have curiousity about it and want to try it. If it was common to go to the store and pick up a little bit of pot to smoke, a lot of teens would just be like, “I can do it whenever I want when I’m 18″, just how I feel about cigarette smoking. My parents are both tobacco smokers, they smoke outside and never inside, I have never found tobacco/nicotine that appealing, it makes me feel dizzy, smelly, and it tastes like s**t.
I just don’t understand why it is so bad or illegal, as smoking cigarettes is worse because nicotine has a much higher dependence liability, and so does alcohol. So that makes nicotine and alcohol much more addictive. I think that it should be decriminalized and/or legalized for distribution to the public, but that probably won’t happen.
Any comments others have?

Your question was to long. But if the government could find a way to Tax it, it would become legal and have the same restrictions as booze. You shouldn’t drive under the influence of anything. However I would rather has a “stoner” on the road than a “drunk”. I don’t do either but the bottom line is money. If the government could make money in taxing it, you would be good to go. But it is to easy to grow anywhere and the government can’t restict the growth. They would have to put big brother in every home, commercial building and vacant field.
Many companies won’t hire you if you don’t pass the drug test. Legal or not, that isn’t going to change; because those companies have a right to protect their investment.
So, no matter what your opinion is, ask yourself if it’s worth it. Times are getting tough. It’s getting harder to find a good job. Is it worth it?
It’s easy to grow, which takes $$$ out of pharmaceutical co’s pockets.
There are negatives to it.
Because it causes diseases and hurts you later on in life!!
Its bad for your health…simple as that.
because its not bad at all.
it was made illegal because in the 30′s the majority of marijunana smokers were blacks and mexicans and racist white people didn’t want them having sex with white women.
there is no logical reason why it should be illegal, legal drugs are way more harmful.
also there is no link between marijuana use and lung cancer
Talk to someone who has a brother who has smoked pot every day for twenty years and is now suffering from severe mental disorders.
Not many people smoke as often or as much as he does, so that’s probably why you don’t hear about it much. Google ‘marijuana psychosis’ and you’ll understand what I’m saying.
My personal stance, even after having a brother go totally insane, is that it should be decriminalized – no room in our budgets to put non-violent people behind bars when the fact is that most pot smokers are productive members of society.
Just don’t smoke the stuff for 20 years straight. End up running around naked on Christmas Eve having to be restrained by your two other brothers while your wife is hiding the kids upstairs so they don’t see daddy ‘dancing’.
the reason it was illegalized was because ofthe nixon drug laws. it was actually a war against coke and crack in the 80′s, but as a technicality bud had to be included.
i wish it were legal because then i could not get in trouble for it, plus you could pick your variety, and it would be easy to get, no more waiting for your connect!! but i’m glad the government doesn’t control it cause they would tax the hell out of it, and they already have enough of my money. lol
oh yeah, and you can indeed get in trouble for driving while stoned its a dui, driving under the influence (which is open to all sorts of drugs)
Basically, nothing. The only reason why marijuana is illegal and tobacco and alcohol are legal is because those drugs are “traditional”, and marijuana is not. So then the cops invented the “gateway drug” myth. Most people who do illegal drugs also use tobacco or alcohol while still underage, so if marijuana is gateway drug, then so are alcohol and tobacco.
I have been asking this question since I started smoking pot in 1968 !
This again would weaken the ‘war’ on drugs.More and more Americans are realizing that to make pot legal would open the courts for Real crime and possibly a new tax revenue. Ron Paul wants to do this, but people dont study their politics .
The only true bad thing I see about marijuana are the laws that criminalize it and criminalize the people who use it for whatever reason. It has not been illegal in the US for all that long. The Federal Government pushed for making it illegal shortly after Arizona and New Mexico became States. It was a great tool for removing Mexican Families who had lived in both territories for generations.
It is an unfamiliar and relativly new drug to America compared to morphine, alcohol and tobacco. Politicians fear they will lose control with a drug which is not regulated by the government. It’s all one big fucking power trip for our leaders.
I agree 100%, I’m almost 20 and have been smoking since I was 17. I did not smoke much when I first tried it, mainly because I was still a junior and high school and did not think I could handle smoking weed often. By senior year I began smoking during the school week, and by the last semester of high school I was smoking everyday.
Granted, I have gotten into a little trouble because of pot, which ultimately always leads me to saying “Wow, if only weed was legal, or at least decriminalized” but in the past 3 years, 1 1/2 I’ve smoked daily, I have had an uncountable number of awesome experiences with friends, family (smoked with my cousins), and even some random people I met exclusively through weed.
I personally don’t see weed as an evil drug, maybe I did before I tried it just like most people who’ve been brainwashed since birth who think “DRUGS BAD, DRUGS KILL, WEED BAD, WEED KILLS!!” but now that I have really gotten a lot of experience I must say I’m glad mj found its way into my life
Tyler, you do bring up some good points about Marijuana use for certain medical reasons. However, the reason marijuana is still illegal is the adverse effect of marijuana still out number the good reasons.
Many clinical studies have proven the adverse effects marijuana has on the body. These include, poor learning, anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, and possible schizophrenia.
Also, from a pharmacy standpoint, marijuana is still a class 1 narc. This means it is still looked upon that marijuana is very much abused, and has no medical benefits in the United States.
