Why do sugary alcoholic drinks make my heart hurt?

Whenever I drink a sugary alcoholic drink, my heart will start to hurt with in five minutes. My heart starts to beat faster and there is a strong pain. This can last for a few hours depending on how much of the drink I have consumed. It seems to go away after I have peed a few times. Drinks that do this to me are things like Mike’s hard lemon aid and Smirnoff. I am fine with drinks like beer and liquor. I am going to go to the doctor soon, but I was wondering if anyone had the same problem as I have. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

    An ulcer can cause this.

Alcohol is a stimulant as well as a depressant so it will speed up your heart rate. This could be dangerous so I would ask a doctor about it.

that’s heartburn. Any drink that’s too acidic will cause this. I get the same pains. You might want to let your doctor know this because you probably have acid reflux disease like I have.

does it happen with frozen drinks? I get the same feeling when I drink margarita’s on daquari’s. I believe these cold drinks, sugar and alcohol cause espophogeal spasms which feel like pain in the heart. Do ask your doctor tho.

obviously not all people who have these drinks get the same reaction as you, so its probably some sort of medical condition. go see a doctor. until then, maybe you could avoid these drinks? if they’re hurting you, just don’t drink em.

You’re assuming it’s your heart. In all likelihood– it’s heartburn or indigestion. Alcohol is a major culprit. Try taking a Pepcid (or similar over the counter med) first and see if it happens.

honey, those malt beverages do it to me EVERY time. I have learned to stay away from those since i don’t want heartburn the rest of the night, which is what you have. it’s just the sugar that your trying to digest. in my many years of drinking i have found what works and what doesn’t. i can drink 20 beers in a day and not get a twinge of heartburn. just find what works for you & stick with that.

sounds almost like heartburn. you could be overly sensitive to the acids in those beverages.

Sounds like heartburn…If you stop eating sugar altogether…it’s hard, but try it for 2 weeks…stay away from carbs…And I guarantee you will feel better…
