How can you find out how much alcohol (the proof) is in an alcoholic beverage?
Obviously it’s printed on the bottle. But how do the people that put it on the bottle find it out?
What you have to do is find were the bottle says “alcohol proof.” There should be a number there. cut that number in half. that is the percent of alcohal in the drink.
If you’re in the US, its imprinted on the the bottle’s label by law
John is right, brewers and distillers check the specific gravity of the liquid by using a hydrometer
They use a hydrometer. From what I recall, readings from before and after fermentation are compared. I’m not familiar with the exact process, though.
A hydrolyzer is something different – it is used for separating hydrogen from water.
