The marijuana myth, is it all it’s made out to be?

In the UK cannabis was deregulated from a Class B drug to a Class C (the same class as cough mixtures) to bring down the crime numbers.

By deregulating it what do you think happened.

People abused it and openly smoked it or Cocaine became the drug of choice?

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/ketamine-tops-cocaine-as-new-drug-of-choice-1366714.html

The horse tranquilliser ketamine is increasingly replacing cocaine as the substance of choice among Britain’s recreational drug users, according to charities and experts.

So much for leniency.
PJ _ When Cannabis was deregulated Cocaine became the substance of choice, due to celebrity use and the availability people are now seeking something else to be original. If you have seen the movie ‘In Bruges’ ketamine is used in a recreational way.

  2. Messenger of Kane. says:

cocaine has always been the drug of choice for the middle classes, ever since the 80′s.

edit; of course, the middle classes then are merely the upper-working classes of today.

  3. Pu55y Galore says:

Duh! We all know that “Reefer Madness” was based on 100% fact!

  4. City of the blind says:

Reefer Madness was hardly an award winner.

  5. Told You So says:

I think it should be legal plain and simple, butts are legal, alcohol is legal, weed should be too. Legalize it and tax the hell out of it.

In my state, Maine, anything under an ounce is a fine between 100 and 200, they really don’t even enforce that unless it is too obvious to ignore.

  6. PJ says:

The article is about ketamine – not marijuana.

  7. Doc says:

Using the same logic that if we decriminalized it, the crime rate would go down… Maybe we should decriminalize theft, rape, incest and in some cases, murder! Think of how much money we could save by clearing out the prisons!!!

Yes, Britain liberalized their laws and now look at the mess they are in. Thanks, I’ll pass.

  8. Scott says:

More people smoke pot than you can imagine. It just put me to sleep.
It is less harmful than alcohol for long term users and you can abuse plenty of things. You can even have fun with chemistry with house hold items.
Banning Alcohol did not create the Mafia, but it made it powerful. It even made Joe Kennedy, the father of JFK, Bobby & Teddy his fortune.
Banning pot has done the same thing. Drug enforcement created the gangs that terrorize the urban streets, not the drugs.

  9. aimee c says:

marijuana is just as harmful as alcohol and tobacco. The only reason weed is illegal is because the legal system profits from locking people up for distributing and smoking weed

  10. A Modest Proposer says:

I say we legalize and tax pot, as the first poster noted, we’d save prison space, police efforts, and keep shady sellers off the streets.

Legalizing it would also allow more people to grow it and sell it to make hemp, a cheap alternative to cotton.
