Nah. Lots of people drink to get drunk, or to loosen up. If you drink a lot and if you are addicted to it, then you are an alcoholic. Look at all the college kids that do this – they are not all alcoholics. Be safe though, don’t drink and drive.
If drinking has become necessary for you to function in everyday life, or if you find yourself “needing” to drink at the end of the day to relax, yes you’re on your way to alcoholism.
When drinking interferes with your life, threatens your home, family, job, income, or other people, then it’s a problem.
Based on how you have phrased your question, I’d say you need some help. If you can’t drink an occasional drink just to have a drink, but rather drink for the express purpose of getting plastered, then you’re a drunk.
However, it is one of the things I have stopped doing in the last year, or so. I’m 41 and was on my way to alcoholism. So I cut back my drinking so don’t get drunk anymore. Getting drunk is bad for your health and you could get a DUI or kill someone.
You’re an alcoholic if you can’t get through the day without getting drunk. You’re an alcoholic if you can’t deal with emotional situations without getting drunk later to try and process it. Addiction is when we take something and over do it as compensation for something else going wrong in our lives.. be it eating, drinking, smoking, or ANYTHING. Anything is fine in moderation.
That being said, why the hell would anyone drink for any other reason then to get a buzz? lol..
There’s not much point in drinking unless it is to get drunk. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t drink beer unless there was a real purpose to it. You shouldn’t consider yourself an alcoholic unless you feel the need to drink, or if you drink all the time. Alcoholics run in my family. I drink, but only on occasion. I do it in order to get drunk and have a good time. Just don’t take it too far or do it too often. You will be fine. If you are beyond that point, you may want to get help.
i am sober today and have been in recovery for 7mo only you know if you are a alcoholic do you need to drink to feel normal if so you may have a problem it sounds like you may be on the way to alcoholism but you are the only one who can answer that it does not matter what anyone else says if you can not admit it it wont matter
if you are in college or mid to late 20s, you probably wont be conidered (socially, anyway) an alcoholic if you drink to get drunk. probably not the best thing for your liver, lol, but if you can be responsible about it and control how often you do it, gettin messed up once in a while is ok
No. If you get to the point where alcohol makes you feel “normal” or you believe you CANNOT live without it then get some help. Drinking to get drunk is not under the “criteria,” it is just looking for fun. Just dont over-do it, its all about controlling yourself.
no, it doesn’t matter how much or how often you drink. a true alcoholic can’t stop completely on his/her own. i am an alcoholic, that never had more than 2 drinks every few weeks. alcoholism is classified as a disease by the medical community : fatal, if untreated, there is no cure – only remission.
probably, your system is getting addicted to alcohol and therefore asks for it

Not necessarily, but it does not reflect well on your common sense.
Drinking FREQUENTLY to EXCESS makes you an alcoholic not going out to get drunk on one or two occasions.
