On 05-09-07,on a national radio news broadcast,I heard that Pfizer,one of the largest drug companies,testified before a House committie,that their biggest threat is NOT illegal drugs,but counterfit prescription drugs,manufactured illegally.
Their example was: A kilo of cocaine on the street gets resold at about double the cost.($20000 key nets $40000),However,$64.00 worth of the active chemical in Viagra nets $140000!!!!! ONE HUNDRED FOURTY THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR $64.00 COST!!!!
What does this say about the Drug companies profit!!!!
Lets say they charge 200% more than the ingredent cost,for their expenses,manufacturing,research,salaries,litigation,etc..They are STILL making over 1700% profit!!! Hello!!! This is outrageous!!!
I had a Nurse,from England,married to a Doctor from there,they recently moved to the States,that the exact pills,from the same factory,cost TEN TIMES less there…What is it going to take to get the drug companies and congress to change this?!! Thanks,Hambone.
Yep, prices in the US are a joke.
We live on the border to mexico and my fiance went to mexico to get some medication. One pill in the US would cost you $40, she got a pack of 30 for about $3 or so.
Thats $1200 worth of drugs for $3.
The only way this is going to stop is if the US goverment adopts a healthcare system like the UK or Canada – notice how the pills are 10 times cheaper in the UK and a lot of people order meds from Canada? Can you see the connection yet?
Well, if other people are anything like me and my family, they’re not making a fuss about it because they’ve pretty much given up. Insurance companies, drug companies, they’re all just there to screw people over, and eventually you reach a point where, for your own sanity, it’s easier to just pay than try to fight them. I know it’s depressing, but that’s just how it is.
Anyone can make cocaine if you have coca, I could do it. I couldn’t however make sidenafil for human consumption.
Drug prices are too high, but this is a really poor example.
Quite frankly, Viagra should be very expensive. It isn’t a necessary drug, and the profits exuded from it can go into r and d for other important drugs.
Pfiser puts the most into R&D out of all the companies.
Citizens are not up in arms over this issue because they don’t know the truth and are listening to the marketing guru’s that tell them drugs are good for you. And if it’s good for you, it is supposed to cost more and taste bad.
Drug companies get about 1/4 of the U.S. government revenues and are hailed as the only and best way to solve our medical problems; yet in many countries in the world where they don’t have all this medical garbage, empty foods found in grocery stores, and dentists putting mercury in people’s mouths, CDC recommending mercury laced flu shots, etc., etc., they are healthy and living longer. The U.S. now ranks 24th in longevity among other countries in the world. 75% of all deaths are attributed to heart disease in this country.
Drug companies dictate what doctors recommend. The rep’s hired by the drug companies to promote their garbage show and tell the doctors how and when to use the drugs! The T.V. ad’s are designed to protect the drug companies because they publicly tell people about the “side effects.” Who ever made up the phrase “side effects” anyway? There nothing side about the effects. The drugs cause the effects; just in some it’s worse than in others.
The drug companies get the price they charge because they can. Healthcare agencies were created to collect the money from the public to support the drug companies. They should be called Health collection agencies. The drug companies should be called Death Promoters. Doctors should be called Legal Drug Pushers. I guess that’s why Doctors only PRACTICE medicine. Just ask your doctor what he recommends to prevent colds. Most likely he will tell you eat a lot of vitamin C, drink water and get plenty of sleep. Then ask why when people do this they still get 4 colds per year! Now ask your doctor what you should eat to be healthy. This answer is typically the best of all. They will quote the 4 food groups. Now look at the 24th ranking and ask yourself why are we one of the richest nations in the world and progressively moving toward the most unhealthiest nation in the world. Then ask yourself one more question, “why haven’t the drug companies solved the muscular dystrophy problem after people in this country have given over one billion dollars to Jerry’s kids and muscular dystrophy on the rise.”
