There are no true signs to tell if a person is an alchy or not! There is a big time difference between heavy drinkers and alcoholics. It dosent matter how much a person drinks, its what the booze will do to them, and if they will ditch it for big time matters(parenting, work, school Etc) If ya go by the AA way of saying someone is an alchy, then everyone you know is an alchy…..I understand the denial part of the disease, but any alchy knows they are one, and some would sooner live the 2 years less and have fun with the stuff, others would sooner drink coffee and sit around with dudes that have wore the same shirt/jacket for 15 years.
The way I see it, everyone has a choice to drink or not, and if a person is mentally fit, they can do what they want! So unless you can get into their mind and see what they feel……leave it alone, because if they need help, they will get it!
