Under Islam, consumption of alcohol is haram (forbidden). It is surprising that he was sentenced to death though – the law is not commonly enforced anymore.
What do you think? Answer below!

Yea
i strongly agree
there insane
sentenced for drinking alchol
thats not like its underage or anything
About the only freedom those folks have is breathing and blinking.
Just think, during the Salem witch hunts the Christians weren’t much different.
Where’s the news source? CNN? Fox? NBC? BBC?
You probably get the news from the tabloids.
If you were aware of a law that if you broke you would be executed would you break it? Probably not and if you did could you really expect sympathy from people when you knew full well the implications of your actions.
Who are you to pass judgment on someone else’s culture? Lets not forget that it was abuses by an American backed regime that drove these people to fundamentalist law and that the people of Iran are proud of what they have achieved since throwing off their oppressors.
What news agency is that? do you have any sources?
Alcohol is indeed illegal in Iran. Although I doubt they would hang someone for it.
wow, that is crazy ,Rev.Wright was so out of his mind when he said {GOD DAM AMERICA}.GOD BLESS AMERICA will always work for me.anyway may GOD be with him and i hope and pray that he could somehow be forgivven and his case be thronw out.,i guess only in america but there’s always hope with prayer,i truely wish him luck.
The sentence is harsh, by my standards anyway, and demonstrates the importance of separation of Church and State. However, I would be judging them based on my standards and beliefs, and that would be wrong. The Iranian government and it’s laws are based on their interpretation of Islamic law. Their religion is sacred to them and they believe that every aspect of their lives should be governed by it.
While their choices may seem crazy to you or to me, those choices, based on Islamic law, make complete sense to them. We don’t get it because we weren’t raised with the same values and beliefs as they were. If it’s crazy to live one’s life based on one’s religion, then many of us need to reexamine our choices and worry about our own sanity.
It wouldn’t surprise me if, while I’m sure the man in question doesn’t want to die, he would argue with you in favor of the rightness of his government’s choice to follow the edicts of Islamic law.
Is it sad? Yes. Maybe even to those who have to carry out the sentence. But they really believe it is the right thing to do.
I know that to us as Americans and having the freedom we do it is insane to believe that somebody can be put to death for drinking but you have to remember that these people are really religious and very respectful of what the Quaran says and they punish those who disobey it. Even if it sounds crazy to us, to them it’s only natural. Doesn’t mean that they want to go out and hunt for these people but it’s the law of the land.
If you read your link it does not say he has been executed. It says he has 20 days to appeal and that executions for this kind of offence is rare . I agree it is harsh but that’s the law of the land. and it was his 4th offence I hope that they treat this guy with some leniency
They governmen is so fukd up there…is not even funny..lol..
Iranian law is evil. I can’t put it any better than that. I have nothing against the people, I just find their rulers and law to be evil.

edit. I’m sure that most western people would find this both shocking and evil. It’s hardly a nation renowned for it’s open mindedness. They hang gay people and rape victims. So I’m guessing the thumbs down are from people too scared to face the truth.
The judge may have been drunk. He should appeal.
There’s a lot of old religious and civilian laws that are ridiculous. There’s stupid laws here in USA that aren’t enforced but they are laws. I’m all for believing in some higher power but the old laws from the religions are very cult like.

Wtf? You can’t be killed for drinking alcohol. It’s a sin but so are a thousand other things. Yet this is in the top 6, however i have never ever heard of the death penalty for this crime. These guys are making their own religion.
They are not allowed to kill somone for drinking alcohol. I forgot the hadith, but once one of the friends of the prophet drank alcohol and he only ordered them to hit him with their shoes. when someone cursed the guy who drank alcohol the prophet said, do not curse him because he love god and his prophet.
So there is no real punishment for drinking alcohol to my knowledge, and killing someone for drinking is aganist islam!
