Question by ?????????: What is healthy about people spacing out? Does everyone do this?
I know people love to get lost into listening to a song or watching a movie. They also might have a serious drug addiction or even a form of an epileptic attack. Is it normal to space out & what is healthy about it?

There are different forms of spacing out, and some are healthier than others. Getting lost in a song or watching a movie, even daydreaming is normal and healthy, it’s just a different form of consciousness. It’s a way of relaxing and dealing with emotions and thoughts that you can’t think about all the time.
Drinking and taking drugs is a completely different matter–this is an unhealthy way to find an alternate form of consciousness. It’s bad for your body and your brain, so it harms more than it seems to help at the time. But people drink and do drugs for the same reasons that people daydream or listen to music–to escape, to calm down, to psych themselves up… it’s very personal.

If it’s not related to a medical problem such as ADHD or epilepsy, it’s healthy to space out. It’s a way of reliving tension and other forms of negative thinking. It can also help a person not to act impulsively at a given moment, nor have a raise in blood pressure. It also depends for how long you space out.
