I am pregnant and I need some excuse to not drink alcohol?

Question by Sammy: I am pregnant and I need some excuse to not drink alcohol?
I am going to a Christmas party with a bunch of my friends tomorrow night. I recently found out some news that I am pregnant. I am not ready to tell them this just yet because my boyfriend and I are still trying to digest this new change in our lives. A few weeks ago my excuse was that I was going to be driving and I didn’t want to drink. I don’t want to use it again because I know that they will start talking and that is just unnecessary stress at the moment. Any ideas as to a good excuse?

say that you are on antibiotics and its dangerous to mix with alcohol

  2. Soapy says:

    Say you’re the designated driver.

  3. musiclover says:

    tell them
    1. you promised your parents or some other person that you would stop drinking for a while
    2. you are detoxing and drinking is strictly out

  4. Tierney says:

Say you recently went to the doctors and he put you on a new pill so your not allowed to drink alcohol for a few weeks…

That’s the best I’ve got right now, good luck.

    And congrats!! =D

  5. LIDDYBUG says:

your taking allergy pills and you cant drink alcohol

  6. Timothy says:

If you’re old enough to drink then you’re old enough to make your own decisions nobody should even be questioning your decision. Why in the world do you need an excuse? Unless you’re not legally old enough to drink but even then you can make your own decisions, I find it ridiculous that people need an excuse not to drink. That’s like me asking people why they are drinking? ITS ANNOYING! But then again drunk people don’t understand so I personally would totally avoid the situation by not going.

  7. Leo K says:

You can just say that you have just found out that you have some kind of an allergy when you drink alcohol and refuse it firmly.

  8. Dave says:

Don’t mention anything before the party and order a drink. When it gets to the table, pretend to burpand run to the washroom. Say you just threw up the overly spicy indian food you had for lunch.

  9. rob g says:

Act like you might cancel because of food poisoning. Then tell your friends “I think I can still go, but it sucks, there is no way I’m going to drink” No matter what, put that baby first. Your friends opinions are irrelavant.

  10. Meghan says:

Say you are trying a new health food diet and one of the rules is that you can’t drink alcohol because of the way the sugars breakdown in the body.

  11. bilborey says:

I have one really good excuse. And you can take it from me because my mom drank when i was in her womb and now I have heart problems. Give your kid a chance at a full life and take a break for a year.

Thats sounds kinda harsh. And i know your talking about a different situation.
Tell them you are still hung over from the night before.

Sammy; All you have to say is that you are pregnant and you were advised by your Md not to drink for you and your Baby that should be enough. Why do you need an excuse!

  13. Chris says:

ok say that you just dont want to drink. if your boyfriend is there he will help you. heck, they are your friends they should let you command your life

  14. krystilynn says:

just tell them you don’t want to if they can’t accept that then oh well
best of luck with your pregnancy btw :]

  15. Grace says:

say that the last time you drank you got sick and so you went to the doctor and he said that you can’t drink any acohol for a while.

  16. lilly says:

You silly woman! Your best excuse in the world is that unborn baby in your belly. You do not have to tell the good news to those people. Have you ever thought about just telling them that you have stopped drinking? What is wrong with that? Just have some punch or soda…or better yet, do like Matlock used to do, have a glass of milk!

  17. Obscurity :] says:

Just say your stomach is hurting and alcohol doesn’t sound good!

Or say that last time you drank you got sick and don’t want to do it again!

    Congrats :]

  18. ken G says:

Just say to yourself that alcohol can seriously damage your child, Then ask if you want to carry that burden if the unimaginable happens

  19. Courty says:

Um, you’re taking a medication? Or that you already don’t feel well.

  20. Tonya says:

Tell em you have a tooth or gum infection and it hurts…oh mention having tooth or gum ache a couple of days before to make it more believable.

Or if your boy friend is going with you have him order a drink thats non alcoholic you order the same drink with alcohol and just switch your drinks. Congrats and Good Luck!

  21. amiboo says:

How about you just don’t feel like drinking. There are times that I just don’t want to drink and I’ve never had anyone question it.

  22. Amanda S says:

Say you don’t want all the calories and then eat something healthy at the party. That’s a pretty valid excuse…alcoholic drinks are loaded with calories.

  23. Shaylene's Mommy says:

Congrats on the new baby! They’re a blessing in disguise! Tell your friends that you’ve just started a new diet, no carbs which means no alcohol. Orrrrrrr go with your own drink, some sort of juice, they’ll never know!

  24. blackjack21 says:

Coke on the rocks with lime.

  25. kezz13 says:

Another option is to get a drink that *looks* like it is alcoholic but isn’t – e.g. a softdrink served in a champagne glass. In that situation it probably won’t even occur to most people that you aren’t drinking, and hence they won’t even ask you.

  26. Hashini says:

Say you’re taking antibiotics OR say that you have a stomach flu/food poisoning from the night before and you keep having to take a shit or have diarrhea. Lol.
