i have been drinking for like 17 years now and i want to clean up and sober up. what is the best way to do it? cold turkey? gradual decrease? what?

Best answer:
Answer by i am barely holding on
well cold turkey makes you feel worse lolz
i’d sugest going to rehab
its the best way one of my friends was an alcoholic
he tried going cold turkey but that just gave him bad headaches and increased cravings
he tried to gradually decrease but it never fully works
so try going to rehab. and if you have a buddy who has a same problem
take him/her with you too
its better then going it alone
good luck<3

Well do you use all the time? If you are an addict there is usually something in your life that makes you use. I’ve been using meth, on and off for 12 yrs. I’ve wanted to stop but don’t. I know what my problems are, they are just too painful to touch. So I continue to use, but i’ve seen it happen.
I don’t want to lecture you, but you are young and have a fighting chance. I’ve seen many people lose everything, including themselves. I happen to be quite lucky I still have a decent life.
hi there…First off let me say how awesome i think it is that you are thinking of trying to get clean and sober!! It takes ALOT of courage to look yourself in the eye and admit that things may be out of control and it takes even more courage to ask questions on how to go about accomplishing that.
That being said in your question you state that you have been drinking for 17yrs and want to clean up and sober up..Well if you have been drinking for 17yrs on a daily basis or even if the drinking didn’t begin on a daily basis but now it has then you do NOT need to attempt a cold turkey detox on your own!!!! And I am sorry but with drinking there really isn’t a proper way to taper down off of it simply due to the nature of the disease…
You really need to take a week or so and check into a MEDICALLY supervised detox..I stress the medically supervised because detoxing from alcohol can be fatal. Alcohol has been in the system of the alcoholic for so long that when it is taken out, the body reacts violently. This reaction can be fatal. The body will convulse and become nauseous. This can all be very uncomfortable. The best thing to do is to perform alcohol detox within a treatment facility.
When a person is “drying out” from alcohol there can be physical alcohol withdrawal symptoms which are different for everyone, but can include, sweats, nausea, vomiting, tremors, anxiety and the possibility of convulsions and seizures..
People get clean and sober everyday and many stay that way for long periods of time even the rest of their life so I see NO reason why you cant do the same..
I wish you all the best and my thoughts and prayers are with you as you begin the hard and bumpy road that will lead you eventually to a better life…
Take care of yourself my friend…
