Officials monitor abuse of ‘hillbilly heroin’
On the street it is known as “Hillbilly Heroin.” But OxyContin isn’t the scourge in Saskatchewan that it is in other jurisdictions — largely because of Doug Spitzig’s eagle eye.

Deputy’s conviction highlights rising drug presence in county jails
Sheriff’s officials take steps to crack down on smuggling operations, some of which use jail guards and contractors to carry in heroin, methamphetamine and marijuana worth tens of thousands. The inmate’s request seemed fairly benign inside the teeming, violent Los Angeles County jail. He wanted Sheriff’s Deputy Peter Paul Felix to smuggle him in some decent food.
