Question by Anjel: Can a person “fully” recover from the effects of the disease of alcoholism
live a healthy productive life with no left over garbage from the disease
I’m sorry, I don’t think I wrote my question well enough to get my point across…by the “effects of the disease” I meant the loved ones who have an alcoholic in their lives

My father-in-law drank for over 40 years and was definitely an alcoholic, smoked for over 60 years and died at the age of 82.(Alzheimer’s)

of course you can if you choose to—you are the ultimate controller in what goes on in your life.
edit to your edit–my advice still stands…both myself and my husband have alcoholics in our family but we don’t allow the devastation to rule in our family. It’s hard but you have to put it aside, not let it rule in your life as a reminder and concentrate on yourself day by day.
Well it depends what you’re talking about. If you mean physical effects, you can recover, but it could potentially cause complications later in life. Like, you liver can regenerate so I guess.
yes i did,,,ive been dry for 3 years now
First of all being an alcoholic is not a disease… Its a bad habit that if an individual continues to persue can become an addiction. Okay, once an alcoholic always an alcholic according to my drug and behavior professor that also happens to be a psychologist… you cannot turn a pickle into a cucumber. Many Alcoholics can very well stop drinking it for years.. and the moment they pick up a drink they will become addicts again!
