  1. Question Everything™ says:

There are a number of other programs (most being more successful) that do not use the higher power step.

  2. ⌡Machine Head⌠ says:

Atheists and agnostics involved in a 12 step program are expected to undergo a conversion experience in Step 5.

  3. Inanimate Phoenix Christ says:

Actually, even theists don’t always benefit from Narcotics Anonymous. It really is a useless program. But you believe TV commercials.

  4. tai D says:

The long term success of 12-step programs is about 2%. The long term success of going cold turkey without 12-step — about 2%.

YOUR HIGHER POWER CAN BE ANYTHING…….

IT COULD BE YOUR ATHEISM……..YOUR SENSE OF SELF RELIANCE…..

SO YOU CAN SHOW UP FOR N.A………..

OR WILL ANY EXCUSE DO…… NOT TO GO ???

  6. WellTraveledProg says:

Addiction is a physical ailment, not a “moral weakness.”
And yes, atheists can (if they want to) go to any of the “anonymous” groups that make reference to a “higher power” — those groups are clear that your “higher power” can be anything you want, including another person you see as an example.

Apparently your religious belief limits your thinking — I’d work on that if I were you.

    Peace.

Better question is how do god believers who are supposed to be moral fall into drugs? I’m atheist and have never smoked a cigarette or weed. Who has the moral weakness?
