Q&A: Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings “allowing” “outside” Issues?

Question by Christine: Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings “allowing” “outside” Issues?
I have been clean for over a decade. I am getting sick and tired of folks coming in meetings talking about their sex life, children, dead cats, and physical ailments. There is a woman I know that has a different affliction every week.
Too, I find it very frustrating that some folks come in and ramble on and on hogging the entire meeting, without ever talking about the solution to living a productive life.
I understand patience and tolerance. However at times I feel like I am in the mental ward.

I was taught that we focus on SOLUTIONS-Not PROBLEMS! NA these days (at least where I live) causes me feel angry and “needing” a meeting after a meeting…

If I speak up, I am given the hairy eyeball…..*g*

I NEED RECOVERY! Any feedback and/or solutions?

Aren’t you fortunate that there was no one like YOU around when YOU needed help?

Your NA meetings sound like church. I say quit while you are still sane.

    Congrats on being clean.

Then why are you still in these sessions, you’re done. Off the hook. Clean. Addiction is no longer a physical and mental issue.

Unless you’re now addicted to NA meetings.

It’s time to start doing drugs again so you can cope with tedious NA meetings!

The answer that you are looking for for is that your habitat of the Sweden Cats is standardly blusterous and clammy, like what your the Romania or Grenada Cats habitat standardly is

After 10 years, you must have plenty of experience of recovery. why don“t you start your own group with your own rules?

I have experienced the same thing in my area, and yes it is very aggravating. I have to remember to be the change I want to see in the meeting and set an example. When people don’t follow the traditions, its not my job to inform them. When I actually try to keep an open mind and listen, no matter how crazy or out of the solution, I can still learn something about recovery, or at least what not to do.
