Question by Jadey: Why are some alcoholic drinks illegal and others legal?
Many alcoholic drinks such as beer and wine are legal but why are others, for example, moonshine and home brew illegal? Is it because they are too strong?

they’re not technically illegal to drink, they’re illegal to make without proper licensing.

Moonshine is illegal because if it is not distilled enough, it can kill you.
Yeah I think so because it is a stronger alcohol than the rest and also it is not brewed under certain guidelines so that means it has not past the inspection test.
something they have a very high alcohol content, more than what is legal to buy in a store.
also, because moonshine etc is made in back yards, and they sell it, and make money. the government doesnt like people makin money behind their back when it comes to alcohol.
Moonshine is illegal because the makers of it don’t pay taxes on it. Homebrew is perfectly legal and I in fact have a stout brewing at home right now.
If the makers of moonshine got a license and paid taxes it wouldn’t be illegal. There are a few brands of moonshine out actually. My brother got one for my dad last Christmas… it even came in a mason jar.
EDIT:
Liquor laws are controlled by local/state government in the US and there are some states that limit the alcohol content that can be sold in that state. I think, and admittedly I may be wrong, it is Mississippi prohibits beer from being of 3.5%ABV… Or is it one of the Carolina.
You can run a car off moonshine, do you really want to drink it?
moonshine is illegal cos the government cant get control to tax it……..homebrew is legal as long as you dont try to sell it
The reason moonshine is illegal is because the government can’t tax it. If you want something similar to moon shine buy Everclear or diesel. Both are grain alcohols with proofs in the 150′s. One illegal alcohol is absinthe. It is said to be a sort of hallucinogen, because of the wormwood in the drink.
Drinking is not per se illegal.
1 Distilling is illegal without permits.
2 homebrew is allowed for your own consumption.
The first one is because government wants to make sure they get TAXES from alcohol consumption (which represents a lot of money per year) and if people start doing alcohol on their own, they wouldn[t be getting the desired taxes! unless they start extra taxing SUGAR!!!
home brew was illegal too, but somehow people fought for it and got back part of their freedoms! hope the same happens with stills!
Cheers!!!
