Is there really an alcohol-caffeine ban? Is this nationwide? What drinks are affected?

Question by Torsten: Is there really an alcohol-caffeine ban? Is this nationwide? What drinks are affected?
I read a news article online that claimed that some kind of energy drinks that contain both caffeine and alcohol are supposedly going to be banned.

Does this caffeine-alcohol ban affect other possible caffeine-alcohol combinations, such as Kahlua, Irish Coffee, Rum and Cola, etc.?

Do you agree with such a ban?

hey if they can ban Happy Meals, they sure as hell can ban alcoholic energy drinks.
I don’t agree with any ban.
I do agree with allowing people to make up their own minds once they have all the information.

  1. Mayor Adam West says:

The FDA is going to make a recommendation, but a full out ban is not in effect.

I do not agree with it. All out prohibition and blindly banning things never leads to anything good. I think it would be a much better idea to put regulations into effect that would set standards for caffeine and stimulant levels. Even though I don’t support the ban, I do admit that 12% ABV and as much caffeine as a tall Starbucks is a little messed up. If Phusion is smart they will work with the government like they said they would in the open letter they published last week.

At this time it is unknown what all the ban will cover. The Brewers Association is attempting to work with the government to set regulations so that traditional drinks like Kahlua, Coffee and Chocolate beers don’t get banned as well.

    EDIT –

Since I posted this last night the FDA has released its recommendation and there is a national ban on Four Loko and other beverages like it.
