Question by I Block Stupid People: Does anyone know of natural pain management techniques that could be used during recovery from surgery?
I have bad reactions to narcotics and don’t want to overdo the ibuprophen. I’m having a planned orthopedic surgery later this year…had a similar surgery ten years ago and the post-operative pain was the worst pain I’ve ever been in. Does anyone know of some natural (do-it-yourself type) techniques to manage pain that will be pretty much constant for about a week or so?
Massage, ice packs and chiropractic are not going to help at all for localized post-operative pain where my foot will most likely be in a cast. Try again.

This is a small one, but arnica montana, a homepathic works really well..My mom had knee surgery and her doc loves the stuff! It really helped her.
Self Hypnosis, visualization therapy and meditation, acupuncture, massage (especially lymphatic drainage), ice packs, music.
I had a friend who had bone repair after an motorcycle accident and the only thing used during surgery for pain management was acupuncture because he could not tolerate narcotics of any kind. He said it worked very well, but he had a master acupuncturist from China also who had worked in surgery before.
There are a number of enzyme products now on the market that reduce inflamation and are therefore helpful to reduce pain and swelling. The sites provided on this link will teach you about serrapeptase. It can be taken before and after surgery.

You can purchase it here.

The homeopathic remedy Arnica is often used before surgery and now some plastic surgeons are using it. You could start taking it at 30c potency before the surgery and after. Or:

Anything that speeds the healing process will reduce pain and swelling.
If you are having surgury on bone be sure to get some homeopathic symphytum (knit bone) in 200c potency. Take it frequently after surgery, up to 4 to 6 times a day as the pain demands. It works very well for the pain of broken bones and I have used it many times successfully.
Here. Scroll down till you find symthytum off. in 200c

I used homeopathic ledum and and arnica following my mastectomy prescribed by a homeopathic physician (MD).
It worked very well and I did not take any narcotic for pain. That was my first experience with homeopathic remedies. I took them for three days, had no pain and then stopped. Then I had pain so I took them for three more days.
Ledum is indicated when tissue is cut or punctured, arnica for tissue bruising. No bone was involved in my surgery.
