Question by LalaQueenBee: Is it illegal to be addicted to drugs in California?
Im researching Robinson v California and I know it ruled that the California statute making addiction to narcotics a crime violated the Constitution because it was a cruel and unusual punishment. So is it still a crime today

Addiction is a mental/physical state, some would argue a disease. It’s not something that can be punished reasonably, or should be punished. What IS a crime is using, possessing, and selling drugs, and other activities related to such. The law doesn’t care whether or not you are an addict, or just a recreational user.
