it depends on how long the person was an alcoholic and how bad the problem was. if we’re talking about a life-long alcohol problem that has lead to dementia or Korsakoff’s syndrome, then, no. it is permanent brain damage that will not get better.

if it’s a shorter term thing, where the memory loss is caused by stress, fatigue, or short-term vitamin deficiency, then it could get better, given time and rest.

Memories that were lost during alcoholism were probably due to ‘black outs”. They may never come back. But…after awhile of being without alchohol, your short term memory should be fine, unless you are like 70 years old and have a wet brain (permanent damage).

Black outs are an effect of excessive drinking and often are never realized. But usually they are not worth remembering, seriously…because you had to be drunk when those things were happening.

I doubt you were drunk when you were studying seriously or having a nice time with your brother…or were you?

If you had any non-drunk times, those are the only memories that count.

Anything that happened during Black Outs will have to be apologized for if someone mentions it.

Yes it will return to normal but it require time to retrieve it back. To say it completely loss is incorrect as human brain had high capability to retain and keep the memory from lost as we know that human brain devide to some type and if it lost just to alcohol consume it mean that person is unnormal and has misfunsion in his/her brain.

It will recover at normal back but it takes time and to improve it back it need much more time than recovering from alcohol influence. Don’t worry just relax and work hard and preseverence at will and I hope you will recover from it.

Your memory does not get any better and neither does your liver. Quitting drinking allows you to live longer with less risk of alcohol poisoning your body.
