Q&A: Had appendix out last saturday?

Question by lilb: Had appendix out last saturday?
I had my appendix out by the regular way, where you have a gash on the lower right side of stomach. It was taken out last Saturday, and Ive run out of meds. They gave me 30 5mg vicodin pills. It still hurts because I have been lifting my 18 mo. old daughter all the time…should I go back and get more meds? If so, I dont wanna look like an idiot addicted to narcotics. How long will it take to recovery completly
My fiance thinks im being a big baby, and says I dont need the pills

    1. Ask for help – you should not be lifting your daughter – so ask for help from someone in caring for her. You need to give your body a chance to heal.

    2. Call your doctor and tell them exactly what you said here. If you are still in pain and you have been lifting, you may have damaged some internal sutures or at very least, set the healing process back. You may need to see your doctor and you may need pain medication a bit longer because of the lifting. But whatever you do, you need to stop lifting long enough for you to heal.

So, it takes everyone different lengths of time to heal from a surgery. I do not feel like asking for more meds makes you look like a drug addict but they may not give you more narcotics they may give you prescription strength Tylenol or ibuprofen. Also while I understand you daughter wants to be picked up you may not be able to do it as much as she would like. I know you can’t really reason with an 18 month old so here are a couple of things to try. Have her climb onto your lap instead of you picking her up as this takes th strain off of your abdominal muscles as it is hers being used and not yours. If you do have to pick her up to not bend at the waist to do so, it is all about the legs at this point. The legs are much larger stronger muscles and are not injured at this point like your abdominals are. Remember to keep the child close to you when you lift. The website below has great pictures and explanations for everything.

I hope you feel better soon!

Don’t listen to anyone else. You know how you are feeling, no one knows how you feel. Go back to the doctor and explain the situation and the doctor will most likely tell you not to be lifting your kid for a while which will be hard but is for the best and then hopefully he will give you the meds.
    good luck!
