I’ve heard people say alcoholism runs in the family and they’re more genetically prone to being an alcoholic.

No.

Maybe, however I think its more “genetic” because if you grow up in a household that has one or both parents drinking constantly, it seems normal to you, therefore you might be more prone to doing it as well.
I do not think so. There are a lot of alcoholics in my dads family (Including my dad) and I am not one. I like to drink at parties or clubs but I know my limits and I do not NEED liquor like most alchies do.
Some people are more prone to addictions to alcohol and other substances and this tendency is inherited. That’s why it’s advisable for these individuals to avoid alcohol altogether.
Not necessarily genetic but possibly a gene that makes you prone to be an alcoholic.
Therefore the tendency for it to run in families is obvious
The genetic link is a predisposition only: something that makes it easier for that person to become an alcoholic than for someone with a different genetic profile. However, a genetic predisposition is not fate. You are not guaranteed to become an alcoholic just because there is a genetic predisposition to it. If you don’t drink alcohol, you won’t become an alcoholic, genetics or not. You can’t use the “it runs in the family” as an excuse. Ultimately, you control your own destiny.
