If Alcohol kills brain cells then how come people who suffered decades of alcoholism are still smart?

Question by Goobery: If Alcohol kills brain cells then how come people who suffered decades of alcoholism are still smart?
Seriously. I know people who have suffered years and years like 20 years of Alcoholism at least. Almost everyday drinking in excess. And they seem like smart people. Even though what they did in the past was stupid. They don’t seem like they are stupid. They think and act perfectly fine.

Because alcohol doesn’t kill brain cells. It damages them to all hell when you drink a lot, but it doesn’t actually eradicate them.

because the brain recoveres, whenyou cut your finger the cut heals, so does the brain
unless you do it real damage, like if you cut open your finger and leave it for long enough, it wont heal, same with the brain
if you keep drinking, and do it long enough, it can affect your brain for good

and whos to determine what perfeclty fine is on the outside, if it can ruin you inside, you cant see it, we only see it when the effects begin to show

they might be still ‘smart’ and be functioning okay, but the memory would have turned to custard and the dignity will be long gone too, not to mention the money will have been pissed up the wall………

I am not sure about the other so-called smart people, but I do know that we have a lot of alcoholics who go on to become famous world leaders and the reason they are what they are, is because there are enough alcoholics out there who voted for them… does that answer your question somewhat? *burps* ;)

Alcohol is a poison, do you think shortening your life or harming your brain is stupid? OK, with the people you know ,maybe it does not show yet BUT it will. My husband was a pharmacist and was smart to the last day and at age 60 he died. Stop trying to prove you are right and go to AA and get information. Read a book about addiction. Get educated. I wish you enlightenment…..
