It depends on the person. while Ive known some that 2 this day are still using, there are others that wanted it bad enough that they quit and are clean and sober. The meetings help, but 4 me they just brought 2 many anxieties about goin back. So I just made up my mind and devoted myself 2 friends, family and work. 9 1/2 yrs. and goin strong.

it can if the person works the program. If they are simply attending the meetings to be attending them, then their chances for staying clean are lower. It all depends on the willingness of the person to stay clean!!

`Most of the “Anonymous” (Alcohol, Narcotics, Gambling, Y!A, etc.) groups do help a great number of people.

    There are no guarantees.

HELL NO…not for me anyways….if a person is trying to get off drugs…why would u want to sit around all day and trade dope stories…i was on drugs for awhile and went to jail…when i got out..my parolle officer wanted me to go to meetings…i did not or would not go…a person trying to quit does not need to think about it all day long or u might just decide to go out and get the buzz u have been talking about so much….plus…most likely u have enough problems dealing with ur own issues…how are u gonna be able to help someone else that is addicted…u will not have time for #1….YOURSELF..there is alot of activities u can get into that do not require the use of drugs…..my self…i am still not clean….i smoke alot of pot…..i am not trying to quit….but ..a few years back i was strung out on cocaine…everyday all day for 2 years..i lost over 80lbs….when u cant take it no more……u will quit…..no drug or program can help a person that is strung out….this is all my opinion..and this is coming from a person who has tried everything from oxycotin to cocaine..crack..pretty much any pill u can think of..and years in prison 4 it

No. I believe that going to meetings, getting a sponsor, doing the steps, being willing to go to any length and changing everything in your using life keeps an addict clean. Just going to meetings does nothing more than taking the edge off.

You should check out the meetings in your area some are better than others. From what I’ve heard the main thing NA does is to keep the addicts busy during the day and to try and keep their mind off of it. Some areas are better at it than others. My brother went to a meeting once and it didn’t help him, but I’ve heard others who said they got a lot from the meetings. You also have to really be ready to quit, showing up to a meeting doesn’t do it alone you have to do it for yourself as well and continue to show some will-power when you aren’t at a meeting.

Only if they have ‘hit a bottom’ and become willing to change by doing the 12 steps of the program.

It’s harder to find statistics on NA than it is on AA which has a 5% success rate.

The best report I have seen was when someone got their hands on key chain sales (the ones that advertise clean time). Judging from the amount of 24 hour that were purchased against 30 days, 60 days, etc, their success rate is even lower than AA’s 5%.

My own experiences with AA and NA is that both are very cult-like and offer excuses for past behavior while never addressing the causes.
