Question by Nia Black: Possible to be addicted to chocolate?
It contains serotonin (the happy hormone) right? When I realized this I started eating it to make me feel better for a while. Now I eat it every day. Now it’s not making me feel better. I think I’ve eaten so much chocolate that it doesn’t have an effect anymore. But is that possible? Could I be addicted to chocolate? It’s not a narcotic, painkiller, alcohol…

It is possible to be addicted to anything or anyone.
What do you think? Answer below!

dark chocolate is good for the heart! I love chocolate!!!!!! though it gives me pimple when I eat a lot of them hehehe
Chocolate itself does not contain serotonin itself. Serotonin is produced in the brain, and when you eat chocolate, it releases endorphins and opens the serotonin channels more than normal.
Chocolate does not have any scientific proof that it causes addictions; however, I believe that a person can become addicted to *anything.* When you feel a *need* for something and use to solve emotional problems, then that starts to form an addiction. Many people are addicted to food alone, and use it as a coping mechanism to deal with emotional issues.
As for you, I would cut back on the chocolate. If you find it’s impossible, then chances are, you are probably dealing with something that is more emotional, even if you’re subconsciously unaware of it.
Best of luck to you, dear.
No. Chocolate does not contain serotonin. It does, however, contain a chemical called theobromine. This chemical, in large amounts, can give you a bit of a lift.
Chocolate is not physically addicting. However, it tastes wonderful – so it is possible to become psychologically addicted to it.
Eat some chocolate everyday if you feel like it – just keep the amount reasonable. Dark chocolate is a good choice, as it has a higher level of bioflavinoids, which are thought to be beneficial to the heart :-)
You can be addicted to anything. This sounds like an addiction, but your body must be used to the happiness now.
It’s time to go the next step up and add to the chocolate to make a stronger happy effect…make marijuana fudge! KIDDING, KIDDING, gosh. Just a joke, but such a thing does exist.
Yes and for several reasons.Sugar will make you hungrier for more sweets and chocolate has always been a comfort food. Young children love brownies, cake, candy, and hot cocoa. You can overcome that by slowly cutting back and replacing sugars with fruit. The caffeine in it is a known addictive substance. The hormone in chocolate is an endorphin-like brain chemical called phenethylamine (PEA). Chocolate contains that as well as magnesium. If you have deficiencies in either of these your body will crave anything that contains it. Replace chocolate with supplements. Addictions are caused by an imbalance in brain chemistry. Once you start eating a healthy, well balanced diet along with a multivitamin and use some will power to cut back on your intake, you will be able to overcome the cravings.
its just a big craving, but yet tastes good
Yes it’s possible because I’m an addict too.
chocolate also has caffeine in it, this is a drug. you can have a caffeine addiction so i guess you could be addicted to chocolate.
