The greatest liberal, FDR, said that
“Continued dependence upon welfare induces a spiritual disintegration fundamentally destructive to the national fiber. To dole our relief in this way is to administer a narcotic, a subtle destroyer of the human spirit.”
Have democrats gotten their supporters so addicted to the welfare narcotic that the people on these programs “need a fix” and look to democrats for that drug?

Yes. Unfortunately, we have an entitlement class in this country. They have been told by the media and their community organizers that, for some unknown reason, their life isn’t fair and that means they should be allowed to steal money out of my pocket for themselves. (Even though I’ve never done anything to them.)
All the politicians have to do is confirm their greed, tell them they’re right, and, if they vote for said politician, they will get my money.

They need poor people to get elected — which is the reason behind welfare. Keep them rich enough to eat and find shelter and poor enough to need that assistance.

there is a certain mentality that develops from the undeserved handout. those who deserve it are truly trying to better themselves and need support to stop. those who abuse it plan on doing nothing but holding hands out.

I agree with Beast- I work with those who have gotten handouts so long, they see no other world. They don’t desire more, they disrespect us and most of all, the disrespect what they’re given.

The people of this country are under educated, and not trained or prepared to compete for jobs in the future. Yes. Training and educational programs are very much needed to create not only new jobs, but to strengthen us as a country so that we can continue to lead.

According to Bloomberg news, the government has given out $8.5 TRILLION in corporate welfare checks in the past year; social welfare expenditures are a drop in the bucket compared to this outrage.
I’ve written this poem, entitlted “A CEO’s Lament” which might help explain what I mean:
I went to my uncle the other day
and asked him if he’d help me out:
“I’ve squandred my money and pissed it away

Better that we allow ‘big business’ (which is incompetent, mismanaged, sloppy, greedy, and reckless – just like ‘big government’) to go belly-up. Then let government make small business loans to small groups of entreprenuers so that they can buy up the spoils of GM’s Buick Division and build a car that gets 250 mpg and lasts for 20 years. Or, maybe the government could loan money to a small band of former GM employees who can create a car that runs on water or compressed air. America’s ‘fat cat’ auto makers, incompetent bankers, greedy hedge fund speculators, arrogant investment brokers, swindling mortgage lenders and other assorted money mongers need to be left to their own devices instead of being ‘rescued’ by taxpayers’ trillions. -RKO- 02/19/09
