Question by questlove: Please help me with this alcohol question??????How to stop binge drinking?
I quit drinking about 2 months ago because i found that although i only drank once a week whenever i did drink I would drink way to much and get really, really drunk. I want to be able to drink again but I am afraid that i will not be able to stop and binge drink again. How do i start drinking again bt make sure i don’t binge drink?

How to avoid binging? Seems best you avoid alcohol entirely if unable to control yourself when around the stuff.
if you have no self control, go to the store and only buy 2 bottles of beer, go home and drink them… that way you don’t have anything more to tempt you.
Don’t keep any alcohol in your apartment/house so you wont see it and wont be tempted to drink it.
If you want to drink you can but only in moderation. My suggestion would be to go to a local bar and order one drink and then stop.
It might be a question of changing your lifestyle or what you are drinking.
If you have friends who like to binge drink and will encourage you to do the same then it might be wise to stay away from them for a while – or see them in situation where alcohol isnt involve – meeting for lunch, going to the cinema etc.
Avoid drinking on your own at all.
If you drink a lot of beers and spirits, then why not try wine? I find that after a glass or two of wine, I am satisfied and relaxed. With beer or spirits, I tend to drink a lot of them.

Buddy there is such thing as NA BEER (non alcohol) If that does not help or apes you then forget NA and go AA
The question you have to ask yourself is why do you drink?
or What are you trying to hide/numb when you drink?
In my experience, most people drink because they are unable to cope with a situation in life. Rather than face the situation and address how they are feeling, people turn to the drink.
Drinking gives you the happy hit, it gives you the excuse to hang around with a/the group, or it gives you a sense of sophistication (“Wow, I feel glamourous”, “I am a connoseur of beer/wine”. All are completely illusional and temporary (which is why people go back to have another drink the next day or the next week) as the real cause has not been addressed (see first questions)

My pseudo-scientific advice: You need to cognitively realize the causes and consequences of binge drinking. It is a coping mechanism to stress that has no lasting benefit. Do you binge drink to lose control, in other words to quit caring about a frustrating situation or experience? Are you an angry drunk, depressing drunk, self-disclosing drunk, careless drunk? Find other leisure activities other than the ‘easy’ or ‘cool’ ways to ‘get high’ or deflect stress from being depressed, like hobbies ( i.e. sports, hiking, gaming, affection, etc). Whatever floats your boat in a well-mannered way in groups or alone. Also, work/school should be considered and balanced. Achieving understanding through communication might be a big factor when it comes to goals, intentions, and expectations of supervisors, and teachers. Once all that is balanced, the motivation to binge should definitely be alleviated.
Try and figure out your capabilities and expand on them with thoughtful consideration to negative as well as positive consequences of actions (a.k.a. responsibility).
Also, choose your friends wisely as they also have an influence on you.

It’s not preachy, it isn’t trying to scare you, it doesn’t even suggest everyone quit drinking.
