its simple.. you need to see a doctor… when you get dependent to drugs to keep you functional or asleep, you cant just stop at an instant. you need to taper the dose until you get used to without it; otherwise, you’ll get withdrawals. and there’s no better person who can tell you how to do that than a doctor.

once you have fixed that problem, then you can face your problems in school.

and yes, i believe you have to tell your parents. they will get mad, thats a normal reaction but they CAN help you.. they WILL..

i wish you luck! ;)

Wow. Good for you. The hardest part about having an addiction is admitting to your self that you have one. You are in a position where taking care of this must become a priority. Seek out an AA or NA meeting. Bring your body and your mind will follow, just listen. Good luck, my prayers are with you.

OK, 8 mg is a LOT of Xanax to be taking at once. I take Xanax myself; I know what normal dosages are. I don’t have a “magic bullet” to get you off of Xanax, but I will tell you this much — DO NOT STOP COLD TURKEY! At the dosages you’re used to, stopping suddenly and completely could cause life-threatening seizures or other complications. To get off Xanax safely, you need to “taper” off, gradually weaning yourself from the drug. You’re going to need the help of a doctor. (If you happen to live in central Arkansas, USA, e-mail me and I’ll refer you to a good one in Little Rock.)

One online resource you might look into is benzobuddies.org. Google “benzo buddies” if you have trouble finding it. They’re basically an on-line support group with a lot of information about the “tapering-off” method.

Now, on to another problem: you’re broke, and can’t pay for a doctor’s visit. Here’s where telling your parents might help. You can tell them you need their help to get “clean” and they might pay for the doctor’s visits. If that’s not an option, taper down a little bit yourself (like to 5 mg per day) and use the money you’re saving to pay for an office visit with a doctor. If my guess is correct, you’ve been buying “street” Xanax at $3-5 per 2 mg “bar,” right? Do the math, and you’ll see that tapering down just a little can save you quite a bit of money over, say, two weeks’ time.

When you see the doctor, be honest with him or her. What you’ll probably get is a slowly-tapering-down prescription for Xanax (which will save you a lot of money, if you’ve been paying those high black market prices), plus an Rx for whatever other drug(s) s/he tries to transition you to. There are several possibilities here, but I don’t want to name them because I’m afraid if I do you’ll just try finding these alternatives and treating yourself — and you really need the help of a real doctor.

One last time (because it’s important): do not stop taking Xanax suddenly! Okay? Taper, and get the help of a real M.D. ….

I was up that high of a dose myself for anxiety and stress and it is way to much, My doc when I took 7 a day had me take 6 a day for a week then 5 a day for a week then 4 and so on. Though I still have bad anxiety I now take a much lower dose only 2 mg a day, I take the middle strength instead of 1mg. and this works well for me, But if 8mg’s aren’t knocking you out your system has really built up a resistance to them whatever you do don’t go cold turkey you will get very ill
