Question by That Gay Guy: I need meal ideas for tomorrow.?
Hey guys, I’m 17 and I had UP3 surgery yesterday (uvulopalatopharyngoplasty–it’s throat surgery. They took out my adenoids, tonsils, and cut off about a third of my uvula). I have been discharged from the hospital and am at home now. My throat hurts like hell but I am on codeine for it (20 ml every three hours–that’s a ton of drugs, especially considering it’s a narcotic) so I am able to eat some things but not much. Today I was able to eat a very small amount of food–a small portion of a Slimfast shake and a little bit of very soft mashed potatoes. My parents are both working tomorrow (they could not get time off) and there is nobody around who can make anything for me, so I need some meal ideas that a person who had massive throat surgery can eat. The stuff needs to be things that we would have readily available in the pantry, and whatever i make needs to be very very soft and quite bland (any spice or anything even remotely stiff, hard, or crunchy will be disastrous for my recovery). What suggestions do you have?

Any type of soft cold thing
The common saying for like getting tonsels removed is eat tons of tons of ice cream.

Chicken noodle soup in a can,
baked potato in the microwave with some butter,
scrambled eggs,
oatmeal,
cream of wheat or malt-o-meal,
ramen noodles,
pudding if you have some you can make it yourself if you have milk, sugar, cornstarch and vanilla.
Mac n cheese,
yogurt ,
chocolate milk,
Popsicles

Whoa…..I’m cringing and I still have my tonsils! When I was a kid, the story was that if you had your tonsils out, you got to eat all the ice cream you wanted.
1. Cream of potato leek soup, run thru a sieve if necessary.
2. Mashed potatos mixed with sour cream and butter
3. Smoothies made with vanilla ice cream, mashed bananas, chocolate syrup.
4. Noodles with broth…..overcook!
5. Ice cream, sherbet, sorbet
6. Tomato bisque: dilute wtih half and half or milk to reduce acidity

Maybe have your parents pick you up some Ensure. It comes in chocolate, strawberry and vanilla flavor and is like a meal but it’s liquid. It is packed with vitamins and nutrients.

Soups. Probably broth soups with the vegetables strained out or mashed thoroughly. Maybe a cheap brand of chicken noodle. The noodles and veggies are very little and could easily be mashed up or avoided. Tomato soup perhaps? May be a little too acidic. Ice cream is always good for a sore throats. It eases the pain some. This will sound odd but baby food would be very good. It is quite bland and is thoroughly mashed which is exactly what you need. Good luck and get well soon.

I know the prefect thing. My mom makes the best cheesy potato soup. Its great for someone like you. How i make it is. I take some potato (as many as you want or think you will eat) boil them until they are almost to the mashing point but not quite. Drain half the water out and put the remaining water and potato’s in the crock pot. Take some ham any kind make sure its in small pieces. Add this to the water and potato’s in the pot. Also add some cheese. The cheesier the better. I use Velveeta, its not to strong like sharp cheddar. Cook until the cheese is melted and the potato’s are mushy. Add any seasons if you want
Smoothies: milk, yogurt, and/or juice with fruit in a blender.
Soup: anything smooth and I imagine cooled would work.
Yogurt, rice, mashed potatoes, mashed sweet potatoes, soft fruits like peaches of bananas.

Im scared. A smoothy, use milk and ice or milk and ice cream, add some canned fruit, and put in the blender. Peaches, apple sauce, apricot, anything that will blend smooth and very thin. Im sorry, I hope you feel better soon. Jello, pudding, anything that wont leave behind bits.
I personally LOVE Ramen, you know those really cheap noodles? If you leave the spice out, (the stuff in the little grey package), the noodles are pretty plain tasting, and as long as you cook them long enough, they are very soft, and I would suggest cutting them up.
