Q&A: why do they keep selling alcohol, tobacco, drugs, junkie food and weapons?

Question by lawyerkit: why do they keep selling alcohol, tobacco, drugs, junkie food and weapons?
If this things are responsible for suffering and millions of deaths and diseases like obesity, alcoholism, lung cancer etc….why they do not stop selling it and instead give people healthy food, proper accomodation, good health and good quality education.
And just to add, a can of any alcohol is much cheaper than any food I buy.Like I can buy with or £3 alcohol for a week and cannot buy any decent food with that….
And education, accomodation, health and food are the basic for human survival!!

They keep selling those items because people keep buying them. The only way to stop an item from ever being sold is to have no one that wants it. Even if they make a law banning that item, people will still buy it. That is why they don’t just ban all of those items, it wouldn’t work.

Most (or all) of those things don’t harm anyone if people enjoy them responsibly, it’s what individuals choose to do with them and how often that matters.

If we did criminalize all of the above then a massive underground black market would emerge which would cause several problems. It wouldn’t be wise.
