Question by ~*Understanding Patience*~: Why is pot illegal and alcohol isn’t?
I don’t smoke, but I know those who do. I have never seen anyone beat their wife after smoking OR lash out on anyone else. The worste I’ve seen is eating too much junk food.
Alcohol on the other hand no only destroys the person’s life (I’m talking about when alcohol is abused) but destroys the family’s as well. People get drunk and act out violently. You can overdose on it.
I’ve seen so many deaths on the news involving alcohol but I’ve never seen one with pot.
What do you think?
BTW–if pot was legal I think it should definatly be monitored and people shouldn’t drive on it-just like alcohol.

Because they tried having both banned and it didn’t work. Yeah, alcohol is destructive, but the reality is pot was pretty much banned from the start. Drinking was allowed, so it’s tough to ban a substance once it’s publicly accepted. Not to mention alcohol is a problem in the US, where in many European countries from which many immigrants came. People drink but don’t abuse it like in the US. Which is the real issue. I feel pot should be legal, it would save the government a lot of money in law enforcement and they could tax the hell out of it. But like booze, it can be abused also, and i don’t see it ever being legal for that reason.

Momentum. Alcohol has been in use by Western society for so long that it has long been rather ingrained. They tried to outlaw it in the 1920′s with very bad results. The best way to deal with the destructive nature of alcohol is to leave it legal where it can at least be regulated.
Pot, on the other hand, is relatively recent and not nearly as ingrained into society. It is still seen as a counter-culture phenomena, right or wrong.
Objectively, I think you’re right. Pot isn’t nearly as dangerous as alcohol. In some parts of the world pot is legal and alcohol illegal. It’s all about local culture and local history.
BTW, if it makes you feel any better, if alcohol were discovered today it would be quickly outlawed and dealt with like paint thinner.
beacuse its been legal for so long and when they tried to ban it it didn’t work.. but the main reason is the government make so much money off it!! think how much they’d lose if alchohol wasnt sold!
Hello,
I don’t care for the abuse of either. I’ve not seen pot smokers act violent but I will not work with them since they are not focused, mind wandering, not listening and everything they do seems centered around their next fix. Their second hand smoke is not great for your health and pot does impair your driving abilities. Also many people are also drinking alcohol when they smoke pot anyway.
I do not want to see it all legalized but small amounts for personal use should be decriminalized. In western society alcohol has been around for 10,000 years and is a far more difficult custom to break. Prohibition has been tried but failed.

There was a huge smear campaign against hemp / cannibis starting in the 20′s and continuing until today. If you speak out in favor of hemp products and marijuana, you are branded a ‘pothead’ even if you don’t smoke.
I am in agreement with you. Alcohol is much more unhealthy and has more severe consequences when used inappropriately or in excess.
There is not a legal cannibis industry or strong-enough grass-roots movement in the USA to promote hemp in the economy, the government, or in society. We can only blame politicians and greedy capitalists for the death of a useful and healthful green alternative way back when our ancestors banned alcohol and were scared to bits by the commies and foreigners.
good question,ask your congressman,and senators.
isnt it a hypocrisy !
Probably because people turn passive on pot but rowdy on alcohol and they want us to fight because then they can employ enforcement to put us in our place and control us.
Also if they bust some hash or weed they can stick it back out there on the street to sell and they didn’t have the hassle of growing it themselves.
I don’t believe anyone with any sense would burn easy to earn cash, it may have been destroyed in some extreme cases, but I don’t believe anything Government and I’m sticking to it.
Because people have abused it. It is natural and has many good uses. But with everything else in life;
All in moderation, remains oblivious to the mind!
