Question by purifiedheartbeating: Narcotics Anonnymous?
Why do some recoverying addicts insist on going to Narcotics anonnymous until the day they die? I have a friend who I think is in his 20′s or 30′s and he insists that he’s going to go to N.A. until he’s 100 years old. Why? I am a recovered addict who got clean by Faith in God and several years later attended N.A. because I was courious and the program caused me to Relapse because I had to affirm “I am an Addict” everytime I went. It’s a Negetive self-affirmation. DOES ANYONE ELS DISAGREE WITH THE PHRASE “I AM AN ADDICT?” I realize it might be good for STARTERS, but for someone years into the program, I think it’s hazardous.
I had to go through something simular in violent offender group and I think the group just drilled violence.

I agree with you. I feel like I’m actually lying when I say say I’m an alcoholic when I haven’t had a drink in over 20 years.

Well, that’s your opinion. I figure, if it helps keep them clean for the rest of their lives…let them go ahead and attend NA.
