Why do people here suggest counseling for every little problem?

Question by Secret Agent: Why do people here suggest counseling for every little problem?
I’m not talking about mental illnesses, but things we could solve ourselves if we actually tried. Like someone who lacks confidence, or has an addiction, or doesn’t have many friends because they are shy. Has anyone else noticed how a lot these issues are almost labeled as medical conditions and the advice people give is: “seek professional help”
Whatever happened to thinking about your problem and coming up with a solution?

Because people are money hungry.

b/c people here earn their living by counceling, or plan to do so once they graduate.

Cuz they themselves don’t know any better or don’t feel like solving someone else’s problems, which usually are pretty lame, and require only common sense.

Most addictions that are ruining peoples lives need professional help. Sometimes people are here to find a way out of going to counseling and need someone here to tell them that Yahoo is not the place to find it…

-Because when we don’t know the “Answer”- to a Problem, -it’s SO much easier to “pass the Buck”- AND the Responsibility for Solving It- onto someone Else…THAT way no “Thinking” is required, on Our part… .. . :(

I work for a drug company and we put a lot of research into developing drugs for people who don’t really need them. For someone to take drugs they don’t need, my company needs to pay off doctors, shrinks, and licensed counselors, to name a few. With all the effort that goes into making people think they need a prescription when they don’t, you don’t think we want people to start figuring this out do you?

In fact, maybe you should see your doctor. Your question is a classic symptom of WTF syndrome.

The greater problem is American society, we have a culture of “awe you tired, heres an award”
Nothing’s ever my fault, its the environment, my childhood, the other kids had better shoes, wah wah. Thats why when a kid comes from another country and go to college here they always are top of the class. We need to change and toughen up, its ok if your depressed, or you fail a test.
Instead people rush to say ” he has depression, he has a learning disorder”
Now id say 10% of the time when people are diagnosed its a real problem, the rest of the time its someone trying to blame something else for a personal fault.
