i was addicted to vicodin, now im off is ultram going to be a bad choice for my chronic pain issues?

Question by archangel1111: i was addicted to vicodin, now im off is ultram going to be a bad choice for my chronic pain issues?
i have fibromyalgia and arthritis…i was addicted to vicodin and abused it to great extent for over a year. now that i have gotten off of it with the help of suboxen, my pain issues are back. i have to do something and have an appt. with my neurologist tomorrow. wondering is ultram going to cause a reaction in my brain to make me want more. i know it is a “semi-narcotic” but i never “enjoyed” taking it before and i know that it does work. now that my med tolerance is back down to normal im considering ultram and lyrica but i am scared. ive been clean for 23 days and proud. i definitely do NOT want to go back into the old patterns even tho i cannot get another prescription from my doc for vicodin and i am attending NA meetings regularly i am still afraid..anyone experienced in this subject. i know there are supposedly people out there addicted to ultram, God knows how lol but my ONLY interest here is pain relief. going with excersice and other natural remedies are fine and all but sometimes the pain is excruciating and i do NEED something to take it down a couple of notches…just NO NARCOTICS at least not vicodin. thanks!!!

I too went through withdrawals to get off my narcotics. Now I take Tramadol and Ibuprofen 800s. My pain is still great but it beats being hooked on narcotics! Talk to your doctor and express your concerns, He can help a lot more than anyone here on YA.

You better believe it is. You do not use Ultram in physically dependant people. And this is right out of the PDR. It is a poor drug, weak and messes with brain registries in short and the withdraw is worse. Trust me I know this first hand, you need Hydrocodone to get off this stuff. Write me for an elaborate explanation if this is not enough. Withdrawal can result in the worse bone pain you ever felt. It can take 21 days to get out of you. This is also a totally synthetic drug. Completely man made, the danger is, if you kept having to increase your Vicodin, you are going to have to keep increasing this and this drug has horrible side effects.

Withdrawal from Ultram is hell, IT IS A NARCOTIC! It is a opiate! If you do not believe this look on Wikipedia. Look it on the web. Type Ultram sucks on Google.

    i thought I answered this..

Ultram is an OPIATE–not even a semi opiate–
for some reason the FDA decided that the addiction potential was not as severe as other controlled drugs—so the company and the docs and pharmacists aren’t up front about its status as an opiate….
the literature I got didn’t mention it–only said ‘analgesisc’ my doc said it was an SSRI pain med

so much for getting better help from a doc
