.Does anyone know why? I seem allergic to narcotics.?

Question by lana s: .Does anyone know why? I seem allergic to narcotics.?
I itch with narcotics given at the hospital or prescription. I am a heart patient, and have numerous kinds of surgeries and hospital stays. I just had a pacemaker with defiblator put in last week. and it happened again. When they give me any of their pain medication such as Nubane, Demerol, or anything similar. I am not an addict and never have been on them except for pain such as that.
What can I use for severe pain? Is there something to keep from the itching?
itch severly and get NO rest.
What should I do if I have to have something for severe pain?

Take benedryl to control the itching. Benadryl will make you tired and will help you sleep too. You might not be allergic to narcotics, everyone itches a bit when they take painkillers.
