Super ANTIOXIDANT Smoothie for “Eating Disorder Rehab”

shanlarter.com Hey! Thanks for stopping by for another video in my “Eating Disorder Rehab” SMOOTHIE SERIES where I share some of my FAVOURITE smoothies with you that were such a powerful and healing part of my own Eating Disorder Rehab. Confused over the word “antioxidant”? Hear it everywhere and wonder what the heck is the big deal about antioxidants anyway? Well here are a few points to clear the mental fog (LITERALLY!) – Antioxidants is really just a fancy term for “vitamins and minerals that combat free-radicals” – Some well known antioxidants are Vitamin A, Vitamin B-6, Vitamin B-12, Beta carotene, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Selenium, Folic Acid. – Some powerful fruit sources of antioxidants are: prunes, raisins, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, raspberries, plums, oranges, apples, red grapes and cherries. – Some powerful veggie sources of antioxidants are: kale, spinach, Brussels sprouts, broccoli florets, beets, onions. – Its important to combat free radicals because most scientists believe that: free radicals are responsible for weakened immune systems, arthritis, heart trouble, stroke, cancer, and even wrinkled dry skin. Many researchers are proving the link between basic ageing and low antioxidant levels as a ’cause and effect relationship’ suggesting that we can slow down the ageing clock LITERALLY just by eating hefty amounts of antioxidants in our daily food intake. – the BEST source of antioxidants is fresh, uncooked, organic fruits and veggies. Hi, could you add some of the nutrition info in the videos or info area, such as calories, or fiber. Do you use protein powder in any of your shakes? Thank you

@siodll Hey! GLAD TO SEE YOU ON MY BLOG too!! Now that you “know” how great spirulina is… lets get you to ‘feeeeeel’ how great it is!! Keep me updated! Shan :)

  7. shanlarter says:

@kennerzzz hahaha well get your habit going between semesters and then you will feel so energetic and mentally sharp that you will NEED your morning smoothie in the morning, no matter WHO has to wake up! LOL~Shan ox

  8. kennerzzz says:

@shanlarter It’s partially the noise, also the fact that I’m just way too lazy in the morning!!! The semester is over at my university right now, so it will at least make it a bit easier to try this in the morning, with me laying around the house all day. In the freezing cold. Ha! Thanks! :]

  9. siodll says:

Hey Shan. – Great smoothie. I couldn’t find Spirulina over the weekend…but I made the smoothie with everything else. YUM!! Oh something I was excited to learn about Spirulina….many research studies have shown it greatly improves allergic rhinitis from hay fever. Huge bonus for me. – Thanks for all you do. You are amazing.

  10. shanlarter says:

@kennerzzz hmmm… enzymes are most active right away when you blend them. But lets put it this way, if you are getting these foods into your body, you are doing GREAT! So give it a try and let me know! Is it the noise in the morning you want to avoid? or just want it to be ‘already made’ so you can dash out the door? If it is speed you’re looking for, you can stick all ingredients in blender jar, keep it in fridge and then ‘blend & to-go cup it’ in the A.M. (except flax seeds, they bulk) :)

I’ll have to try this one after my next trip to the organic market, which isn’t super close to my house. Is it possible to make this smoothie at night and freeze it for breakfast the next day, or would it completly mess up the smooth texture like freezing a fast-food smoothie?

  12. shanlarter says:

@OnEDayCloser2me SO glad you love fruit! Sneak the veggies in there too ok! They are easily hidden amount the sweet goodness… so blend away!! LOL Shan xo

  13. shanlarter says:

@cadaizy WOW thanks so much for that! I have always had POWER and LIFE… but I hid them for a long time.. didn’t think they were enough, or right, or perfect. Thought that the ‘bigness’ of who I was would ‘scare people off’ so i slouched, whispered or was bitter and sarcastic… HA! Can’t even IMAGINE going back there EVER!
I am blessed to know you, and hope that I am helping in any way I can. Keep up the freedom work!! Shan ox

  14. shanlarter says:

@rescuelullaby YUP same here! Its because you get the ‘nutrition high’ almost right away from all the vits/mins/proteins/enzymes etc being “pre ground’ for you making it easier for your body to absorb the nutrients!
Plus no after effects of bloat, cramp, constipation etc. LOVE how my body feels on smoothies… look forward to hear about how this one ‘went down’ for ya! Shan :)

@bulimicfears Thank you so much for your encouragement about my videos. I am doing them to help every woman who wants to claim her freedom, and I appreciate your support! Thanks so much for the video suggestion, I am just wrapping up on the ‘food related’ videos for a while, and will absolutely cover that topic in one of my next series. Thanks! Shan xo

Shan..Your words are honestly POWER and LIFE.. You speak from a place that you have walked and overcome.. Your energy, life and testimony speak into the places in my life that need hope..THANK YOU… <3

  18. rescuelullaby says:

Sounds scrummy! Will definitely be trying this one sometime soon with all the fresh fruit around at the moment :-) I’m a huge fan of smoothies, for some reason liquids are much easier for me than solid foods, so smoothies like this are great.

  19. bulimicfears says:

Shan you truly inspire me. I hope to see more videos targeted at ‘controlling our emotions’ prior to b/p. How do we get them under control? How did you? Keep doing what you are doing- you’re changing hearts, you’re changing lives :).
