what kind of gift should I give to someone who just completed 1 year clean and sober?

she’s 23, in rehab for one year and we’re so proud.

sparkling grape juice along with flowers and a teddy bear.

psst… the fact that it’s like wine is kind of the point! It shows that you can still have fun with your friends- yes, even to the extent of drinking something- and not get drunk.

She’s already given herself life just give her the gift of being a friend that she can call anytime

Speaking as someone who has gone through this himself, I would say no gift is needed. The gift of sobriety and all that comes with it should be reward enough. I’m not saying support and congrats aren’t necessary, but living a sober life is the best gift I have ever gotten!!!

Pitch in with family / friends and get her a massage or something healthy!

Don’t give her grape juice! How lame is that? It will remind her of wine…

How about some flowers and a nice card?
Also, words of encouragement and support go a long way as well.

I’ve been there many times with cousins….sad to say. Support is the best gift of all!

Say face-to-face to her, “…we’re so proud!” I would not give a gift, but a true expression of love, unspoken encouragement (hugs help), and if it is blood kin, a child of yours or a sibling, or, for that matter, a close friend, a long kiss on the cheek.

Send her a card telling just how proud you are, and some sparkling apple juice with chocolate.

I think this more of a celebratory event than a gifting event. Take her out to a nice lunch, express your feelings of pride and happiness and love and all that. That will speak volumes about your support for her, and she will appreciate it much more than a tangible (and perhaps disposable!) gift.
