Question by Shannon G: Can going from binge drinking to drinking a few beers a day, if that, do severe damage to my health?
I’ve been a part of AA for 9 months but I’ve found that cutting back to a couple of light beers a day is working better than months of abstinence for now. It just seems like the stress of having to keep a certain sobriety date and constant reminders that I am an alcoholic causes me to relasp hard. Keep in mind that I am a 29 year old woman that has been drinking heavily for most of my twenties.

It can benefit way more than it can damage you. Your liver needs time to repair. I suppose that drinking a little beer a day wouldn’t hurt you very much, but it still needs to be in moderation.

I don’t think a few beers a day is a health problem.
Though some people can keep their drinking to no more than that forever, others find that abstinence is the only way to keep from going back to binge drinking.
Only you can decide/see which you’ll be.
No. If anything a beer or two a day is good for you.
What you want to watch is making it an every day habit. It isn’t drinking a couple that is bad, it is needing to drink a couple.
