Question by Elizabeth H: Is this binge drinking or something worse?
My friend drinks about 1-2 times a month, and always by himself. It usually seems to happen when he gets off work early and has the rest of the day unplanned.
He will drink an entire 750ml bottle of vodka in under 2 hours. Is this binge drinking or extremely depressive actions?? The last time he did this, I called his brother and his brother got to see how much he drank and how he is blacked out for over 6 hours. When he is blacked out, he is angry…has moments of clarity where he feels sober and in control…and he will make bad decisions that will put himself and others at risk.
What is it called?? I know a lot of people that would be considered an alcoholic and they drink every day…but they would NEVER drink that much in one sitting.

this a binge drinking situation…obviously ur friend has a serious problem…this can be fatal. alcohol poisoning. have u tried to talk to ur friend about drinking in moderation and to enjoy it. not to drink alone and consume enought booze to kill a horse. unfortunately he maybe someone who just shouldn’t drink at all.

It does sound like he may be an alcoholic. You should maybe intervene before it becomes something worse.

You might not realize that you have a drinking problem. You might not drink every day, or you might not drink large amounts when you do drink. You might go for days or weeks between drinking episodes. Many people say they are “social drinkers” because they do not drink every day. But even if you don’t drink very often, it is still possible to be abusing alcohol and to be at risk for becoming addicted to it.
That’s just sick. It’s both being an alcoholic, and binge drinking. Have an intervention.
