If someone claims to be in a lot of pain can they test it?

Question by lost: If someone claims to be in a lot of pain can they test it?
My ex is addicted to morphine. She claims she has fibromialsia. I have know her a long time and when ever there was an opportunity to get stoned she jumped on it. Now she has convinced her family dr. That it’s fibromialsia and kept going infor stronger pain Meds. Im sure it is just her need for narcotics. Can they do a baring scan or something to determine if she is faking.

unfortunately, there really isn’t any test that they can perform to check for it. Yes, a brain scan can be done and can show if there are signs of it. It is very hard to diagnose. If she does have it then she would be in a lot of pain all the time and actually be always tired even before she was prescribed any type of narcotic. You can inform her Dr. that she is or was addicted to morphine and that giving her any type of narcotics is only making the matter worse and he can prescribe another type of pain medication that doesn’t have narcotics in them. You could loose her if you do this or make it very clear to the Dr. that it is for her own good and that he shouldn’t say anything to her otherwise there could be problems. The Dr. is bound by a privacy act and cannot discuss her treatment with you but there isn’t anything that he can do if you tell him about her addiction. My sister had a problem with Xanax and her husband went to the Dr. and told him about it and he actually stopped prescribing them to her but she made a big fuss and he stopped seeing her all together but that is because she truly went off on him. He didn’t tell her that her husband said anything he just told her that he couldn’t legally write any more because he wrote too many all ready but, she just found a different Dr. and her husband went to him as well. Needless to say she is off the Xanax so it worked for them. Good luck to you both.

If she is getting narcotics from her doctor for fibromyalgia then he doctor should be reported. This disease is treatable and there are drugs out there just for this disease. Some doctors just don’t want to deal with addicted patient so they give them what they want, drugs. It is difficult to tell a patient that what they have is an addiction and not truly pain. They are not truly any test that you can do.
