Is there a point at which merely the AMOUNT of alcohol one consumes shows alcoholism?

Question by Mark: Is there a point at which merely the AMOUNT of alcohol one consumes shows alcoholism?
I know this is not a scientific inquiry, and that alcoholism is about more than simply how much one drinks. But ignoring other factors (such as the reason one drinks, how it affects one’s work and loved ones, etc.), is there an amount that is sufficient to know, with little doubt, that the person is an alcoholic.
If so, what is that amount? Assume that we’re talking about an average adult male who weighs about 180 lbs.

Basically if they drink every day which most do. Even if it’s just one glass of wine or .. whatever.

The definition of being an alcoholic are the reasons a person turns to drink and an inability to stop.
If this person can quit for 2 weeks but just prefers to genuinely drink every day then they are just irresponsible. If they do not manage to drink a reasonable amount (for example don’t go over the daily guidelines) then you need to wonder as there is no reason to keep drinking in spite of the risks unless they are getting something out of it other than the taste. Like a smoker, it is an addiction.
If feel they NEED to drink.. for WHATEVER reason… even if it is not every day, then they are an alcoholic. Does that answer your question? It truly does not matter. Anyone asking this question is obviously conerned so it is obviously abnormal.
