Question by : How do you not get addicted to pain meds?
I have a condition that causes me to have to take narcotic pain meds. It’s been going on for over five years and first I used NSAIDS, but stopped due to stomach issues. I switched to tylenol 3 and used them for three years until they stopped working. Switched to tylenol 4, still trying to stay with that type of codeine, because it has lower chance of addiction. Now they are not working as well and I was also supplementing them with OTC pain meds. So now, my dr. is trying 2 weeks of T4 and 2 weeks of percocet. I thought maybe this will prevent or delay building up tollerance or addiction to the drugs. Anyone try this or think it can work? I am concerned that the addiction will occur anyway, because they are still both narcotics. Just not sure what else I can do, I always try to have a row of days without taking them. I am in more pain than usual during those days, but I choose days when I don’t have to work and can just stay home and rest. Would using a fentanyl patch be less addicting? I am just trying to prevent more problems on this issue.

any narcotic pain med you take for 5 days in a row can become an issue. your brain starts to “need” the meds and your body is used to them. as people we cannot control these functions
What do you think? Answer below!

You can always do a detox for your body on a regular basis to get the chemicals out of it and still stay on your pain killers. However try to go a longer period of time instead of taking them exactly when they are suggested. Our minds will develop symptoms that say we are in pain just to get the narcotics and that means that we are really adicted and don’t know it. Detoxing can help but if you still think this is too much then see a doctor about weening yourself off of them. There are positive ways to do that. Then once off stay off for awhile and see if the pain doesn’t go away. If it doesn’t then you still need the pills but can try something that isn’t so adictive.
I was trying to figure out what kind of condition you may have and I was wondering if it’s back pains? For back pains mean you have pinched muscles which also can cause stomach issues if the pinched muscles touch the nerves going to the stomach as they leave the spine. Those issues can be gotten rid of by freeing up your back muscles and here’s how to do that:
Back:
(do from a sitting position)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder, fingers over the back and the palm in the front and firmly press on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.
