Alcohol: A Women’s Health Issue

This program by the National Institues of Health features narratives of seven women recovering from problems with alcohol. These stories make it clear that it’s possible to miss danger signs and that social drinking can become problem drinking, which in turn can evolve into addiction. Abuse and alcoholism are often perceived as problems that only affect men, but alcoholism has been on the rise among women for the last 30 years.

@azonmymind Just a quick note in the case you check back to this thread…. A few weeks ago a got a card from my husband, it said, “I know I might not say it all the time, but I’m so happy with what you’re doing. This day isn’t just the day you quit drinking, it’s the anniversary of the day I got my wife back. I love you.” I hope you can give a card to your wife just like this someday soon. :)

For anyone who wants to stop drinking OR initially try cutting down to safer levels, please find out about MANY different treatment approaches. There is an explosion of DIFFERENT styles and approaches, not just AA (which is great for some). e.g. there’s SMART recovery, SOS etc. Plus, now some also say cutting down works in earlier stage alcoholism. Treatments are like the music scene, u have rock, goth, punk etc. Find the scene that fits YOU personally to thrive

I’m sorry to hear if anyone is struggling with drug addictions of any type. If you want help, and can’t find help, or if the help you seek isn’t helping you. Try what I have done. Accepted Jesus as Lord in your life. ask him to help you with your addiction, and make a vow to him that you will live for him. If you sincerely desire to stop your addiction then God will deliver you from that stronghold in your life.
Prepare for your life to be changed. Bless you. HE HAS DELIVERED ME : )

I respect both you and Radcliffe greatly for giving up alcohol. I also greatly respect Radcliffe for outsmarting the paparazzi. Apparently one of the reasons no one knew about his problem before now is that he would wear the same outfit every time he went out, making all photos taken of him useless. Sure, it hid his problem from us, but it’s none of our damn business anyway.

  29. ABoredGreaser says:

I use to not even think about stuff like that, never saw any use in it, but then this girl came along, I went crazy about her, and……well long story short, I’ve been doing far more than ones fair share of drinking.

Awesome job for 1/2 a year! It’s nice to see someone being so open with their viewers!
Myself, I’m a straight edge. Never drank recreationaly or anywhere outside of church or parental consent (I’m a kristina… :D). I hear about my friends and all these people drinking and doing drugs (Which is the norm is my high school unfortunately.) and it’s hard to know all these people getting into this crap at such a young age.
I support you in your cause! Keep fighting!

so if i’m correct you’re saying you had a chemical dependency to alcohol as well? cus if so you sooo wouldn’t seem like someone who would :3
but i agree with everything you say here.. my grandfather is an alcoholic and he started drinking at a young age he was also a veteran so i think that might of had something to do with it… but once my grandma passed away it got worse. and i think it kinda passed from him to my dad to somewhat of me. >.< but it’s not too terrible.
