Is it normal to take sleeping pills and not wake up?

Question by StarrFly: Is it normal to take sleeping pills and not wake up?
My mom was ( and possibly still is) addicted to prescription drugs. She would overdose on her multiple pills everyday but her body was used to it so she didn’t die when anyone else would have.
Anyways… So she still takes sleeping pills. Two of them. Ambien and Trazadone.

So here are my questions.

What are Ambien and Trazadone?
Are the two a bad mix? Or just bad in general?
Are they narcotic or addictive?
If I try to wake up a person on a sleep med(s) should they be able to wake up and function?

MONITOR: Central nervous system- and/or respiratory-depressant effects may be additively or synergistically increased in patients taking multiple drugs that cause these effects, especially in elderly or debilitated patients.

MANAGEMENT: During concomitant use of these drugs, patients should be monitored for potentially excessive or prolonged CNS and respiratory depression. Ambulatory patients should be counseled to avoid hazardous activities requiring mental alertness and motor coordination until they know how these agents affect them, and to notify their physician if they experience excessive or prolonged CNS effects that interfere with their normal activities.

slowly start taking the pills off her in a way she won’t notice – if you are still worried get a friend to help her out, it is so much easier to give up with the help of a friend and not a stranger
