If you drink to get drunk and have any problems related to alcohol you are an alcoholic, social drinking is like a beer or glass of wine on rare occasion.I think heavy you would be on your way to alcoholism if not already there.
Alcohol, for people that can drink and are not alcoholic,is just to be used for digestion under severe stress and that is it.Once in a while a very little, not even enough to get a buzz is enough.shirley not everyday if not just a few times a year or ever.

Social drinking is rare and occasional drinking. Such as at a wedding. Heavy drinking is going on a binge and drinking often and even alone. You are an alcoholic if you feel you need a drink, you feel you cannot function without it. When you become dependent on it. You cannot control it, you must have one.

social drinkers will only drink when they are in a social scene where others are drinking. They do not have alcohol in their homes. Or if they do, it's because they are having a social gathering in their home with people who like to consume alcohol. Heavy drinkers comsume more alcohol than they can handle. These people may not have alcohol in their homes, however they will be the ones who tend to go out more than two times a week for drinks. Alcoholics drink throughout their day if they can and are drunk more than they are sober. They consume alcohol daily if they can afford it.

In college, I was a "Junior Alcoholic", that was my term for it. I didn't have to drink, like an Alcoholic does, but when I drank, I drank to get drunk. I guess that would make me more of a heavy drinker. Social drinkers were the ones that "nursed" their drinks and just got a slight buzz and never acted really stupid.

Social drinking is as the name implies; something you do in a social setting because you're having a good time with friends.
Heavy drinking is when you're drinking purposefully to get drunk, usually self-medicating and treating it as a way to forget your pain.
Alcoholism is when you drink heavily on frequent if not daily occasions to the point that you become addicted and cannot not drink.

slowly start taking the pills off her in a way she won't notice - if you are still worried get a friend to help her out, it is so much easier to give up with the help of a friend and not a stranger
