Question by alovenfeeling: I have to pay child support while having sole custody?
My ex got into meth, so I was awarded sole custody. They didn’t order her to pay child support. The judge said it was bad enough losing her children, and with supervised visitation, making her pay would only make it harder on her. Well, she entered rehab, than after getting out, stayed in a women’s shelter for a while. They provided her with legal counsel to file for unsupervised.

The judge gave it to her because she had completed rehab. But, because she wasn’t working, I was ordered to pay child support so that she could get her own place. The shelter attorney called it a rebuttable argument that allows for a child support order outside the normal guidelines. As a result, I have to pay, even though I pay for everything for my kids. I’ve tried to appeal, even getting a different attorney, only to lose, while she gets free legal help. I asked the judge what if I refuse to pay? She said I could go to jail and lose custody of my kids. My attorney says it’s common for fathers with custody to still have to pay child support whenever the mother makes less money. I guess it’s the price we have to pay as men for working good paying juobs that women will not even apply for. I’m a miner.

Now there’s no extras. No going to the movies, going to the fair, and certainly no extracurricular activities after school. I can’t afford them. We would occasionally drive over to DC on weekends to wander, or see the Cherry Blossoms, but we’ll never do that again. No money for gas.

Question by connie c: Does anyone know anything about alcoholism and liver disease. My mom’s an alcoholic and I need advice!!!?
My mom is an alcoholic and has been for about 5 years. Her face is puffy and her abdomen is bloated. Her arms and legs are just flesh and bone. She doesn’t look healthy. She is in total denial that she has a problem. On top of that, her mother died a few years ago of cirrhosis of the liver. She is now taking care of her boyfriend who lives with her and is in the final stages of cirrhosis. Her boyfriend is dying in her home, right in front of her and she continues to drink. I honestly don’t know what her “rock bottom” is, that is, if it’s not death. She lives in another state so there’s not much I can personally do to help her. Can somebody help me? I don’t know what kind of help I’m seeking here, but if anybody has any advice on how I should confront her or if anyone knows anything about liver disease and whether or not I should be concerned about the health of her liver based on her physical appearance, it would greatly be appreciated.

Answer by hmugnolo
Im so sorry to hear about you situation, i don’t know many facts about it but i will try to give you my best advice. i think that based on your description, your mother is in serious need of medical attention. it is inevitable that an alcoholic will have a lot of damage to the liver. confronting her, while not an easy thing to do, is a good idea. im not sure of a specific number to give you, but i no there are many alcoholic support groups, and if you go to school you should try talking to your guidance counselor about what you could do. try to get another adult and/or someone who deals with alcoholics involved to give your mother the help she needs. Good luck to you and your mother, i hope things work out for you both.

I’m looking for a somewhat non-traditional job. I very much enjoy helping people in any way that I can, and was planning on going to school for addictions counseling and phlebotomy.

I am also a writer, photographer, and have always wanted to travel the world.

I’ve looked up so many different types of careers and schooling, but I guess I’m just wondering if I could get an outside opinion on careers you might think would fit me, or that I may be interested in. It would be very helpful, thank you.

Best answer:

Answer by D R
That’s something that only you can answer. The best career path for long term stability and growth is health care. Who wouldn’t want to travel the world, but in reality , job wise, that is hard but not impossible to do. Its great to consider what you like to do but then you have to figure out whether or not you are any good at it. Take a stab at what you are most passionate about, start small and go from there. You will more then likely change jobs/professions multiple times in your lifetime, that is expected and normal. Take a chance.

It took them six months to record and release the debut Misery Loves Company. It came to be in Thorben’s bedroom with a few sets of rules: Record only at night. The only light source could be that of candles. Consumption of alcohol was integral. And lastly once anything was recorded it could not be changed. However Brooklyn had struck a deep chord with the guys, and 18 months later they moved back. A rebuilt factory loft is where they lived and recorded their second album overseeing the magnificent Williamsburg Bridge. The following six months had only one rule: Record only things found within the four walls. This is how two dictionaries came to be a kick drum, and vocal chords came to remedy the lack of synths. Named after their Brooklyn address 421 Wythe Avenue was released through PonyRec in April 2009, and like its predecessor it also received critical acclaim. AFM turned into a collective followed by Kristine, Gustav and Laurids. Last year, their third and most renowned album Let This Be The Last Night We Care, was released in Europe, USA and Japan. Two new additions — Anders and Morten — became part of a busy touring schedule, consisting of shows and festivals all over Europe and the US.
