Edgefield Recovery Center’s mission is to provide excellence in professional quality care for drug and alcohol addiction and to treat each client with integrity, compassion, and dignity. Our addiction facility is a 30 bed drug and alcohol treatment center providing rehabilitation services for alcoholism, drug abuse and other addictive disorders. We serve adult men and women who are in need of drug and alcohol rehabilitation services as well as extended residential care. Edgefield provides a variety of services including sub-acute medically supported detox, residential, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient care. We offer treatment of individuals with co-occurring diagnoses such as major depression, anxiety disorders, etc.

The judge gave it to her because she had completed rehab. But, because she wasn’t working, I was ordered to pay child support so that she could get her own place. The shelter attorney called it a rebuttable argument that allows for a child support order outside the normal guidelines. As a result, I have to pay, even though I pay for everything for my kids. I’ve tried to appeal, even getting a different attorney, only to lose, while she gets free legal help. I asked the judge what if I refuse to pay? She said I could go to jail and lose custody of my kids. My attorney says it’s common for fathers with custody to still have to pay child support whenever the mother makes less money. I guess it’s the price we have to pay as men for working good paying juobs that women will not even apply for. I’m a miner.

Now there’s no extras. No going to the movies, going to the fair, and certainly no extracurricular activities after school. I can’t afford them. We would occasionally drive over to DC on weekends to wander, or see the Cherry Blossoms, but we’ll never do that again. No money for gas.

Unfortunately we tend to replace alcohol with another addiction, make sure you don’t get into that trap … try drinking herbal tea or something when you have the urge to drink liquor.

You know what, you don’t need anything RELEVANT TO COUNSELLING. The fact that you are doing extracirilcular things, is good on its own. do sports, join acting shows, play an instrument. DO MOdel UN (relevant to sounseling). that is awesome for your CV.

I’d say if you arent ACTUALLY alcoholic, get beer at the store and drink it at home. Turn your place in to a chill-out and keep it tidy.

My mom is an alcoholic and has been for about 5 years. Her face is puffy and her abdomen is bloated. Her arms and legs are just flesh and bone. She doesn’t look healthy. She is in total denial that she has a problem. On top of that, her mother died a few years ago of cirrhosis of the liver. She is now taking care of her boyfriend who lives with her and is in the final stages of cirrhosis. Her boyfriend is dying in her home, right in front of her and she continues to drink. I honestly don’t know what her “rock bottom” is, that is, if it’s not death. She lives in another state so there’s not much I can personally do to help her. Can somebody help me? I don’t know what kind of help I’m seeking here, but if anybody has any advice on how I should confront her or if anyone knows anything about liver disease and whether or not I should be concerned about the health of her liver based on her physical appearance, it would greatly be appreciated.

Im so sorry to hear about you situation, i don’t know many facts about it but i will try to give you my best advice. i think that based on your description, your mother is in serious need of medical attention. it is inevitable that an alcoholic will have a lot of damage to the liver. confronting her, while not an easy thing to do, is a good idea. im not sure of a specific number to give you, but i no there are many alcoholic support groups, and if you go to school you should try talking to your guidance counselor about what you could do. try to get another adult and/or someone who deals with alcoholics involved to give your mother the help she needs. Good luck to you and your mother, i hope things work out for you both.

That’s something that only you can answer. The best career path for long term stability and growth is health care. Who wouldn’t want to travel the world, but in reality , job wise, that is hard but not impossible to do. Its great to consider what you like to do but then you have to figure out whether or not you are any good at it. Take a stab at what you are most passionate about, start small and go from there. You will more then likely change jobs/professions multiple times in your lifetime, that is expected and normal. Take a chance.
